Is a mark on my new puppy's eyelid normal or concerning?

Hello. I would not say that weepy eyes are normal for any puppy. It is a little difficult to say from the photo, but I get the impression that there is a little inflammation in the skin around the eyes, & maybe even a little hair loss. In puppies, this could just be a mild infection, or even the presence of demodectic mange. A simple skin scrape can determine if this is mange, & it is generally pretty easy to clear up. If this is the puppy you have your heart set on, then have the breeder take him to their veterinarian with the stipulation that all clinical notes are sent to your veterinarian. If this is not possible, then I would make some arrangement to take your new puppy to your veterinarian within a day or so of you obtaining him. You can discuss if anything is found, how much the breeder might compensate you for the cost of the puppy, if you like. Otherwise, he is a beautiful puppy! Judging from the photos and seeing that Loki is very young, this is likely an insect bite, cyst or pimple and nothing to be concerned about. I would monitor this for now and if it does not go down in the next 7-10 days, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine him so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Thank you for including the picture, it is really helpful. The little bumps and the look of the lesion is starting to be suspicious of a mite called demodex mite. It is very common in puppies, and is not usually itchy (but it can be). A skin scrape should be done to look for the mites. Of Course other possibilities include skin infection or ringworm. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I would continue to monitor it for now as this may just be an area of infection or inflammation. It could even be a growth though thankfully most of the eyelid growths in dogs are benign. I would continue to monitor it for now. If it goes away then great. However, if it does not go away and actually continues to grow, I recommend you have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to look into this further and see what seems more likely. Best of luck!

Sometimes there are changes in pigmentation in that region of the eye which are not considered abnormal especially if not bothering the patient. Good luck and have a good night!

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It is very difficult to tell much from the photos. It doesn't look like a bump, it looks more like red skin like she scraped it or something. The eyeball itself looks fine and the eye does not appear red or irritated which is good. I suggest you just monitor this throughout the weekend and if no improvement by early next week then get her to your vet for an exam. I don't think I'd be too worried at this stage. Hope this helps. Hello! Getting a new puppy is so exciting. Unfortunately, from the photo, it is very hard to get a sense of the abnormality you're concerned about. I would make sure that any puppy from a breeder has a health guarantee and also has recent records of a clean bill of health from their veterinarian. You can ask for these things or even ask that the puppy be examined by an ophthalmologist prior to purchase to make sure the change of her eye truly is 'nothing'.
