Why does my puppy's leg tremble when he's sitting or lying down?

Pet's info: Dog | Pit Bull Terrier | Male | unneutered | 3 months and 16 days old | 25 lbs

His left leg shakes while he sits or lays down its like a trembling shake. But it doesn’t hurt him if we grab it or touch it.

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. If you have done a thorough check of his leg and are finding nothing wrong with Chief and he is walking on the leg just fine, I would monitor this for now. I have seen this in quite a few puppies and when I examined the puppy further, I found nothing wrong and it resolved on its own. If Chief begins to show signs of pain / discomfort, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine him so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. It looks like Chief is about 12 weeks of age, so at this age he still needs to go through the remainder of his puppy vaccinations. At his next vaccination appointment, I would discuss this further with the examining veterinarian. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Shaking is a general sign and can be seen with several things that go from just being cold or nervous to being an indication of pain or discomfort. If he is otherwise fine, then it would be ok to monitor him for now. However, if at any point he appears to be in discomfort or stops eating or showing any other concerning symptoms, it may be best to have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment. Why is my Doberman puppy's leg shaking? What's the cause and how to stop it?

That is quite strange! It coudl be from anxiety or a muscle spasm. It could also be from an injury but I would expect he would be limping on it as well. I would try to take a video of it and show your vet when you go in for your next visit. You could try benadryl to see if this calms his nerves a little but it may not help. If it gets worse, you may want to have your vet take a look at it sooner than his next check up. That is very unlikely as neurological signs are late signs in distemper infection and come after respiratory ones (such as discharge from eyes and nose and sneezing and so on). My senior dog's leg shakes when resting. Should I take him to the vet?

Hi! Thanks for entrusting us with Bentley's care today! Lameness and/or possible leg pain and shaking can be a sign of a few things that range from a muscle sprain to even a fracture. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian so that this can be further assessed which will likely include radiographs. Treatment will be dependent on findings though at the very least pain control medications can be prescribed. Good luck! Hoping for a speedy recovery!

Tremors can be due to many different underlying causes and honestly, there are many times we cannot find an underlying cause. If this is a one time thing then I suggest you monitor him and if it happens again, get a video and then make an appointment with your vet. It may never happen again. It is hard for me to comment much without seeing what he is actually doing. My first thought is that it could be a pinched nerve. Other options: * focal seizure * muscle pain/injury * something that is irritating his skin in that area You know him best so if you are truly worried then there is no harm in taking him to your vet now for an exam. Why is my puppy's leg shaking and bending, even after a normal X-ray?

Hi Ardian, I would ask your veterinarian about carpal flexural deformity. It is a condition that we can see in young puppies that have normal x-rays. They think it happens because the bones and tendons are growing at different rates, but they are not sure of the cause. The good news is that it seems to resolve in a few weeks and does not cause any long term problems. Some people recommend a diet change, but it has not been proven to make a difference.
