My puppy missed its last vaccine. Is it okay to get it a week late?

I have my chow dog scheduled to have its last vaccine as a puppy last september 4. I missed its vaccinition because i am away from home until this coming sunday.is it okay to have its vaccine on september 11?

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Amber is beautiful. I would say yes. I use a guideline that I have read regarding vaccination guidelines. As long as you don't go 6 weeks in between boosters you are ok. Beyond 6 weeks you are going into a time period where a good immune response could be less likely and then another booster would be advised. So as long as you are under 6 weeks between vaccines you should be fine. Good luck with Amber.

    Hello. Good question!

    You would just take him to vet now and get the vaccines done and then booster those vaccines in 3-4 weeks. Not a problem! Your vet may recommend one additional set of vaccine boosters after that. Just go by their recommendation.

    Start by taking him straight to the vet! They will probably check for intestinal parasites and give the first round of all vaccinations as if he has never received any. Then he should only need to have one set of boosters 3-4 weeks later.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is never too late! Get the booster done. Being late on the booster just means she may need an additional booster. But hat depends on HOW late you are, if it is just a week or 2 probably not. If it is months then I would give her an extra one 3 weeks later. It is better to be safe! I wish you and Layla the best!

Booster vaccines for puppies should be given 3-4 weeks apart so his vaccine booster can be given anywhere from July 6 to the 13th. So, I think you are fine taking him 5 days from now. Normally, we want to make sure that the booster vaccine is given within 4-6 weeks of the original vaccine. 3-4 weeks is best. So as long as you get Chica in to the vet sometime in the next few days, you should be fine. If you go much longer than that, your veterinarian may recommend doing another booster in 3-4 weeks to make sure that she develops an appropriate immune response.

What happens if my dog misses a scheduled vaccine due to travel?
It's likely that she will be safe to wait an extra week; especially if she received all her previous vaccines. However, I must warn that at this age they are the most vulnerable. This would be more concerning if she has contact with other dogs. One thing to consider is that the vaccines can be given 2-4 weeks apart. If it has been more than two weeks since her last vaccine, then she can have a booster before you leave. If it has been less than two weeks since her last vaccine, then she should be well protected to wait an extra week. I hope that helps and all is well with Sasha.

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. 2 weeks is really too soon for the next vaccine. 3 weeks is early but is acceptable if you have to, 4 weeks is ideal.
