Puppy loose stool, white/yellow specks. New food or tree bark?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 7 months and 20 days old | 14 lbs

My puppy switched to sensitive stomach and skin food about 10 days ago. She’s also getting whole cooled rice in her food. Yesterday I noticed her stool was a little loose and there were small white specks in it. Today, I just saw her stool was less looks but now has large yellow specks. No corn or toys were eaten. The specks were not moving. She does like to chew tree bark sometimes. Any ideas what it could be? Is she massively infected? Is it an emergency situation?

Definitely not something that sounds remotely urgent. Continue to monitor for any associated gastrointestinal signs like vomiting or diarrhea, If you feel the white specks you see are worms, consider bringing a fecal sample into your vet or deworming at home with something over the counter and broad spectrum like Panacur. As long as Karter is acting normally, not exhibiting anything I have mentioned, and is not seeming to lose weight, continue to monitor the situation closely for any other symptoms.

Pups are typically dewormed every 2 weeks for 3-4 treatments since parasites are common. Afterwards, use a monthly preventative to keep her parasite free.

Yellow specks can be worm eggs or can be related to something he may have eaten but not digested. If his stool was not checked for worms due to the diarrhea, I recommend to have it checked for parasites. Best of luck

Why is my puppy's stool watery after new food and eating paper?

Submit a stool sample to your veterinarian to diagnose intestinal parasites or bacterial overgrowth. Puppies frequently acquire roundworms from their mother or environment. The paper likely would not cause an issue unless it was a large quantity. Make sure he continues to eat and drink normally. A bland diet and/or a prescribed dewormer may firm up his stool. Monitor for lethargy, loss of appetite, vomiting or persistent diarrhea.

If the white specks in his poo look like grains of rice or sesame seeds then it is likely your dog has tape worm. ask your vet to treat your puppy for the parasites he diagnosed via a fecal sample (if he has not done a fecal sample, take some fresh poop to your vet for a fecal exam). You may also want to start with flea prevention as tape worm is transmitted by fleas.

The specks may have been undigested food or other foreign material. The chance of a false negative is possible but slight, especially if it was just one episode of diarrhea. Other pets should be safe. Monitor for additional episodes. If she has more diarrhea but is behaving normally, a short fast followed by a bland diet fed in small, frequent amounts may help.

My dog's poop has yellow oatmeal-like stuff, but he's okay. What is it?

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It looks like Starky got into either some food that was yellow and bean-like, or that he ate something that is fibrous, as it almost looks like wool. Without being able to feel it to see how it breaks apart it is hard to tell from the picture. You could bring the feces to the vet to have them look at it, however if Starky is doing well, I would just monitor his feces for now, and make sure he isn't vomiting. Best of luck with Starky!
