My puppy's leg hurts after being stepped on. What should I do?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

My little brother (aged 1.5 years) has stepped on my puppies leg and he screamed loudly. He was not able to put his foot down and has been sitting in his corner for already an hour now, doing nothing. How can I check if everything is ok?

Since your puppy has still not been able to put weight on the leg I would be concerned that the leg is broken. Also, hiding away, can indicate that the dog is painful. I would recommend taking your puppy in to the vet to have X-rays performed to check the leg. Hopefully it is not broken and he will just need some pain medication to help him feel better for the next few days.
