My puppy hurt her leg jumping and won't walk. What should I do?

My puppy jumped and hurt her leg .... I touched her leg and it seems ok but she’s not using it to walk ... what can I do?

Poor Asha. The best thing you can do is to crate her or confine her so she will rest. She needs to get off that leg and rest. If it is a soft tissue injury like a sprain it should improve after a couple of days. If she is still limping when your vet reopens the. I would have your vet take a look at her to ensure she doesn’t need any pain meds or X-rays to rule out a fracture. If she seems really painful and whimpering then ou may want to take her to your local emergency clinic today. I would not give her any human pain meds as most are toxic to dogs. I hope this helps.

If she is limping I would recommend taking her to a veterinarian. Especially with her being so young I would be concerned about her breaking a bone from jumping. Until you can get her to a veterinarian I would recommend resting her.

Accidents happen. For the rest of the day try to keep Shadow from being very active. Do not allow her to run or jump and try to keep her activity very minimal. If she seems uncomfortable tomorrow have her examined by her veterinarian. Hopefully it’s nothing more than some soft tissue injury but a fracture is always possible. Watch for continued lameness, significant discomfort or swelling. I hope she feels better quickly and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Because Lilo is limping, she is showing you she is in pain. Resting her is best for the next 48 hours. No running, jumping, or playing. Take her out to toilet on a lead only, and bring her right back in when she's done. If she still appears painful after this time, then I would take her into the vet for an exam. The vet can diagnose where the pain is coming from, and can dictate a treatment plan for it. She may also benefit from some pain medications, which the vet can prescribe. Please do not give her any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

It sounds like Trixie is in pain. Her fall may have caused her to fracture a bone, damage a joint or ligament, or caused some muscle damage. While joint/muscle damage may resolve on its own, a fracture may require stabilization. Without it, the bone may heal in a deformed way and even alter the growth of the leg in the future. A vet will be able to perform x-rays to see if there is a fracture and offer you treatment options - likely a splint, cast, or surgery to chose from. X-rays are usually not very expensive and will give an answer regarding the cause of the limping. They will also be able to prescribe the appropriate pain medication that is safe for dog. In the meantime, I recommend keeping Trixie as quiet and calm as possible to prevent further trauma.

Why is my puppy limping on her back leg but not crying out?

Poor Lily. When a pet isn't showing a pain response but limping on their back leg, it could indicate that they have either torn a ligament in the joint or have a severe muscle sprain. Also if you don't notice any obvious swelling, then a fracture is likely not the cause. Rest her, no running, jumping playing and leash walk only for the next couple of weeks. You can also do cold compresses on the limb 1-2 times a day. if there is no improvement within 3-4 days, then it's best to get her seen by your veterinarian for a full exam and pet friendly pain medication. She may also need x-rays of the leg to determine the underlying injury (cause). Do not give her people pain meds however because these can be quite toxic to pets and cause major liver and/or kidney damage. It's better to get all pain and anti-inflammatory meds from your vet. Even though she isn't crying out, there is presumed inflammation at the very least, so she can benefit from medication at any time. I hope your puppy gets well soon. Best wishes.

Poor Bayonette! Rest her. No running, jumping, or playing. Confine her to a crate or a small room to limit her movement. Take her out to potty on a leash, and bring her right back in when she's done. If it just started you can let her rest for a few days with minimal walking and minimal physical exercise, if it does not improve within 3-4 days you will have to take her to the vet in order to get it checked and treated, she might need pain killers for a few days. if the vet think it's something more serious such as a fracture, joint injury or foreign body, he might recommend to have an xray done as well.
