My puppy was accidentally stepped on. Should I take her to the vet?

If Eleanor is limping she is in some degree of pain. I would definitely think out going to your veterinarian because clumsy puppies are prone to breaking bones. She may just have a soft tissue injury but it's always better to err on the side of caution. I always advise that if an abnormal sign or behavior persists, worsens or other signs develop to always have your pet evaluated by your veterinarian right away. The fall may have caused some soft tissue/bone injuries or even internal injuries that are causing her problems. Also, she could be suffering from something unrelated to the fall. Your vet can examine her after gathering a history and then advise you on diagnostics/treatment. Possible tests include fecal/blood/urine tests and x-rays. Good luck

Since your puppy has still not been able to put weight on the leg I would be concerned that the leg is broken. Also, hiding away, can indicate that the dog is painful. I would recommend taking your puppy in to the vet to have X-rays performed to check the leg. Hopefully it is not broken and he will just need some pain medication to help him feel better for the next few days.

Aside from that, she should be evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible to check if there are any fractures and to see what would be the best therapeutic step for her. Poor Stella! I would be concerned you may have stepped on her head or neck given the symptoms you have described. I do think she needs to be seen by a vet for a physical exam and x-rays to be safe, but if she is resting and not showing the same symptoms you described, it can wait until the morning. If she wakes up and shows those same symptoms again, appears very painful, has difficulty walking, her eyes appear bloodshot, and/or she starts bleeding from the nose or mouth, take her into an ER vet immediately. Given her age, she should be physically examined by your veterinarian. X-rays may be indicated to rule out fractures. Restrict her activity to just leash walks for elimination. Avoid excessive running, jumping or rough play. Do not medicate her as many OTC drugs cannot be used in puppies or may be toxic to dogs.

Puppies can heal quickly so please feel the leg and as long as it feels normal and he doesn’t cry then you can give him a few days to recover. I’d keep him quiet and take him out for potty breaks only for a day or two. If he’s still lame then you’ll need a veterinary exam to determine the cause.
