My puppy has a hurt leg and isn't walking. What medical help?

Aside from that, she should be evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible to check if there are any fractures and to see what would be the best therapeutic step for her. Given her age, she should be physically examined by your veterinarian. X-rays may be indicated to rule out fractures. Restrict her activity to just leash walks for elimination. Avoid excessive running, jumping or rough play. Do not medicate her as many OTC drugs cannot be used in puppies or may be toxic to dogs.

Since your puppy has still not been able to put weight on the leg I would be concerned that the leg is broken. Also, hiding away, can indicate that the dog is painful. I would recommend taking your puppy in to the vet to have X-rays performed to check the leg. Hopefully it is not broken and he will just need some pain medication to help him feel better for the next few days.

Poor Asha. The best thing you can do is to crate her or confine her so she will rest. She needs to get off that leg and rest. If it is a soft tissue injury like a sprain it should improve after a couple of days. If she is still limping when your vet reopens the. I would have your vet take a look at her to ensure she doesn’t need any pain meds or X-rays to rule out a fracture. If she seems really painful and whimpering then ou may want to take her to your local emergency clinic today. I would not give her any human pain meds as most are toxic to dogs. I hope this helps.

I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian so that this can be further assessed which will likely include radiographs. In order to give the right medication you have to have a correct diagnosis. If your dog ruptured a cruciate ligament, medication will not cure this, but she will need surgery. If Roxy has arthritis then a special NSAID for dogs (never give NSAIDs for humans as they can cause irreversible liver and kidney damage to your dog) can be prescribed by your veterinarian. If she has an injury or infection , that would be addressed with antibiotics and pain medicine. Please take Roxy to your veterinarian for an exam. The vet may want to take x-rays tu rulle out fractures, bone cancer and other conditions visible on x-rays.

Hi there. No, I would not recommend putting any kind of wrap or bandage on her paw, as this is likely to do more harm than good. I would restrict her exercise for the next few days to keep her from hurting her leg further, and give the pain medication as prescribed by the emergency vet. If she is still limping with no improvement by Monday, then I would take her in to see your regular vet for a recheck and possible x-rays.
