My puppy's leg is injured by a car. What should I do immediately?

I think it is important to get back, hip and pelvis X-rays to see if any bones are broken. If there are broken bones he may need surgery to fix them. If the spine is broken that is serious. If all the bones are fine then I would be worried about neurologic problems which sadly are more serious. Neurological problems may or may not get better and need a lot of time. Be sure he is urinating, eating and drinking. If not he should be hospitalized. Sort of hospitalizing and getting a diagnosis via X-rays there is not much else to do but provide supportive care, keep him clean and warm and give him pain medications as prescribed. He should be seen by a vet right away. Even though he is moving all of his extremities well, he may have internal injuries that need treatment. He could have a slow bleed, rupture of an organ, etc. Medical attention is very important.

However, this could also be a fracture which can be very painful. It seems like she is in pain so it would be best to have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Poor Baby! If you believe her leg is broken than you should restrict her activity and keep her quiet until she can be seen by a vet. As for the bleeding, she may have some internal injuries from whatever cause her leg injury. Hopefully, with rest the bleeding will stop. Your vet can do a complete physical examination to determine the extent of her injuries and take xrays, if needed, to determine the best way to treat. If there is an emergency vet open than it would be a good idea to have her seen right away, especially if she seems to be in a lot if pain.

She could have been bumped by the car or is sore from running so far after being scared. If she is suffering from a strain or sprain I would rest her and have her evaluated by your Vet Monday. Hell. It sounds like Bullet was injured. Perhaps someone tripped over or actually stepped on his leg. Even a bigger dog could have injured him. He does need to see a veterinarian as soon as possible. If the leg is fractured, bones generally heal very quickly when the proper treatment is started, sometimes within weeks. Ouch, your poor pup! You need to take him into the vet as soon as possible. It needs to be cleaned sterilely, he may need x-rays to see if there are any possible broken bones, he needs antibiotics to prevent an infection, some of the cuts may need sutures, and he will need pain medication. Please do not give him any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. The vet will determine the appropriate treatment needed. Please take him into one now.
