My 4-month puppy has a fever, red eyes, and is weak. What's wrong?

I am concerned about Tyson feeling so cold. If you have a rectal thermometer, you can take his temperature. Normal is 100-102. If it is low, he should see a vet immediately. Also, you can place a small amount of honey or caro syrup on his gums in case he is hypoglycemic. Other potential causes for his illness include intestinal parasites (even if he was already dewormed once, they are still possible), GI blockage, bacterial or viral infection, food intolerance, among a few other possibilities. Any puppy that is lethargic or has vomiting and/or diarrhea should see a vet if the symptoms last more than 24 hours as they can get dehydrated very quickly.

This is very concerning as, while her vaccinations were done on time, she is not fully protected against distemper and parvo yet. Purulent discharge from her nose and eyes are concerning as they could , of course be a simple respiratory infection, but also a sign of canine distemper. Hi there! Sorry to hear that Poppy is not feeling well. The clinical signs you describe are concerning when they occur in a puppy as they can be seen with serious gastrointestinal infections such as Parvovirus. Other possibilities include intestinal worms, gastrointestinal obstruction and dietary indiscretion, among other possibilities. The sooner these conditions are treated the better the outcome tends to be. For this reason, I recommend that you have Poppy evaluated by a veterinarian to check for these possibilities and to start therapy based on findings. I am sorry to hear he is not feeling well. I would highly encourage you to have a follow up appointment with your veterinarian as soon as possible. Young puppies need nutrition and will Parrish quickly without it. Viral infections such as parvovirus can cause fever and inappetance as well as many other possibilities. It sounds like from your description that Doc Brown is sick, and I would be thinking that he could be suffering from a respiratory infection or allergies. Feeling sick would lead him to be more irritable as well, and it is possible he could have a fever. A dog's normal temperature is 101-102.5F, and anything above 102.5F is a fever. I'd have him seen by a vet in the next day or two. The vet can diagnose what is causing his symptoms, and can prescribe medication to treat him. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

Oh my. Poor guy. If he has a fever this can be caused by a bacterial or viral infection (i.e. Parvovirus if he isn't fully vaccinated). I would have him tested for parvovirus first and if that comes up negative he needs full panel bloodwork and a urinalysis. to fully evaluate him. He should be on antibiotics and fluid therapy to help bring down his fever. He also needs anti-vomit medication to prevent him from becoming dehydrated due to excessive vomiting. If his condition has not improved within 24-48 hrs, then you should consider having him hospitalized so that he can get around the clock care and treatment. Poor guy. I do hope that your pup Shadow is able to make a full and speedy recovery from his illness. For tonight you can try feeding him some slghly warmed up cans of baby food (meat and vegetables or squash) to try to entice him to eat.
