What's this on my puppy's fecal test if the vet can't identify it?

Hi there, thanks for the photo! It really looks like she must be ingesting something from outside. It almost looks like a peanut or something??? It does not look like any type of parasite or mucus which is what I was thinking. I would just keep an eye on her poops and see if you can figure out what she may be eating.

Hi there. Most of our fecal exams require specific tests that will separate our parasite eggs from the feces. Typically I do what's called a fecal float-as most people do. Under the microscope you would be looking for parasite eggs-but there are various forms and you have to know what you're looking for. If you look it up, there are diagrams on certain types of eggs online-but I always recommend a fecal be done by your doctor in case any are missed at home.

Not sure but this could be due to an undigested vegetable material. They do not look like parasites and I would recommend not to worry unless you notice any other sign like vomiting, persistency of that material, diarrhoea, inappetence or lethargy. I would suggest to start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. If you still notice that material inside after a week of dietary change, a fecal analysis would be ideal to identify the nature of it. Hello and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Parasite eggs are microscopic so I'm wondering if what you're seeing in the stool is actually eggs. It could be adult roundworms or even tapeworm eggs. It is not uncommon to see the adult roundworms as they are killed by the deworming process. If it is tapeworm eggs, you may need to end up treating for fleas (as this is how tapeworms are spread). The Dolpac should help treat for tapeworms and the praziquantel should be effective for giardia and roundworms. It is possible that you may end up needed to retreat but I suspect what you are seeing may be normal for the deworming process. Definitely take a fecal sample back to your veterinarian in about 3 weeks to ensure the infection is cleared. Also the prevent reinfection make sure to clean up your dogs feces from the yard. If at any time Echo seems to be acting ill or has diarrhea I would take her back to your veterinarian.

A roundworm dewormer or any other broad spectrum dewormer such as Drontal should take care of the intestinal worms (Nematodes), the eimeria might be an accidental finding, it's usually non pathogenic in dogs (some species are but quite rare), i would ignore that for now unless your dog suffers from severe diarrhoea.

That does not look like a normal intestinal worm. Intestinal worms are white or light yellow. I suspect this is something he ate. Wrap it up in a baggie and take it to be examined by your veterinarian. To be safe, have the store checked for worms since some rooms can be spread to humans. I agree that it is likely vomit and not poop. The Long object could be a worm, but also resembles a plant stem to me. Since she was eating grass I suspect she could have also been consuming other plant materials. I would, however, recommend that you take a poop sample to your veterinarian to have it tested for parasite eggs to make sure that she doesn’t need any medications.
