Are puppies with different colored eyes at risk for health issues?

Heterochromia in dogs means the dog has two different colored eyes. This is usually no cause for concern unless there is an underlying medical condition. Luna's eyes are the same color. We see mixed color irises in dogs all of the time and as far as I know, it doesn't raise any questions in my mind regarding those pets and there health or behavior. Many puppies have lighter colored eyes that will change as they age. It's likely his eyes will change as well. Blue eyes can occur through random mutations so there is a possibility the eyes will remain blue but that would be uncommon. I hope this helps.

This is a medical condition called [anisocoria](https://www.tuftsyourdog.com/doghealthandmedicine/dog-has-different-sized-pupils/) - most of the time, it indicates either a neurological problem or an injury to one of [the eyes](https://www.petcoach.co/article/sight-development-in-the-dog-puppy). However, occasionally in some puppies this condition may occur intermittently with no obvious cause and no other symptoms associated with it - the cause is as yet unknown, but the puppies are otherwise perfectly normal. If this is the first time you have noticed this, I would recommend taking Tucker to a veterinarian or [veterinary ophthalmologist ](https://www.acvo.org/)for an exam to be on the safe side - he may have an eye or head injury, some type of neurological disease, or been exposed to something toxic that could cause this. If his exam is completely normal and he shows no other symptoms, then in the future you could choose to simply monitor at home for other problems.

I do not think there is anything wrong with her eye at least based on these pictures. However, I do think that she is seriously adorable! If she develops any discharge, redness or excessive blinking, have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment. Otherwise, she is likely going to be ok. Eye color in puppies this young can be very variable, sometimes appearing completely black when first opening. The eye color is likely to change as they grow older and into their own. As long as you do not see any discharge or cloudiness associated with the eyes, the color should not be something to be concerned with. Just make sure all the other puppy's eyes are opening relatively soon and look relatively normal. Good luck with your pups!

She looks very sweet and her eyes look fairly normal. Cross-eyedness is not a sign that the puppy will go blind. There are many dogs that are a bit cross-eyed and they have absolutely no health problems with their eyes.
