Why does my 9-month-old puppy have bloody, mucus-filled runny stool?

This type of diarrhea could be due to G.I. parasites, which is not uncommon at all in puppies. This could also be related to the stress of a new home environment or diet change if it's occurred in the past week or so. There are over-the-counter deworming medication. However you may want to contact your veterinarian and see if they want you to bring in a fecal sample so they can tell you for sure if she has G.I. parasites. Generally speaking deworming medication it's fairly safe and would not be harmful if your puppy did not have parasites. However there are some G.I. parasites that require prescription strength deworming medication. But your veterinarian could do the fecal test and tell you if that is the case.

Blood in the poop can be caused by intestinal worms, a stomach illness, sudden change in diet, eating something rotten, a foreign body, or a severe illness like parvo. Because poop in the poop can have some very serious causes and it's been going on for a few days, it's time to see the vet. The vet can diagnose what is causing it and can treat her. The most common reason that we will see soft stool (with or without blood or mucous in it) in a puppy is some type of intestinal parasite. You didn't mention how old Ivy is or if your vet has checked a stool sample, but puppies can commonly have intestinal parasites. Some are microscopic, so the only way to know that they have them is for your vet to look under the microscope. And even if a puppy has been dewormed, it is common for them to have other intestinal parasites since there are no many different types of parasites and they each require a specific type of deworming. So, my first recommendation is to have your veterinarian do a fecal check on Ivy, then decide on an other treatment. It sounds as Diamond is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti nausea injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better. if the vet thinks it is more serious she will need a blood test and possibly an ultrasound in order to find out what is wrong.

I'm sorry to hear Frank is having an issue! If he is otherwise acting normally you can try to offer him a bland diet of boiled chicken and sweet potato or rice to see if this helps. If the diarrhea persists, he starts vomiting , stops eating or becomes lethargic he will need to be examined by a veterinarian right away. Hi there, I wouldn't be worried about one stool like this, but if it worsens or there is any vomiting, disinterest in food, or lethargy, that would warrant an emergency exam for a pup his age. Parvovirus is of serious concern if he is not fully vaccinated. If his stools remain soft but he is otherwise well, I'd recommend calling your regular veterinarian. They may recommend an exam or prescribe probiotics or a diet change if they have already seen Cliff. Puppies his age are generally dewormed every two weeks to eliminate all the life cycles of the most common parasites. I hope this is helpful.
