My puppy ate palm nuts and vomited. What to do for blockage?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 11 months old | 14 lbs

Hi! My puppy has been having small poops, with some diarrhea and has also been vomitting. Today, she vomited out three palm tree nuts (likely the cause of the previous symptoms) and later pooped out two other nuts with all liquid poo. Other than this, she has been acting fine. Is there anything else I should worry about since she had a blockage? What can I do to help her? Thank you!

I would get Sammi seen by your vet to make sure she has emptied out all the palm nuts she ingested and hasn't done herself any lasting damage. Your vet will do an exam, palpate her belly, maybe suggest x-rays to see if she's empty, just to be safe. If she is eating these nuts without you realizing it, you may need to find a way to prevent her from doing this in the future, either by keeping her on a leash at all times when outside, or by getting a cage muzzle to keep her from picking up and swallowing anything while she is outside unsupervised. A cage muzzle will allow her to bark, pant, drink water from a bowl, but will keep her from picking up and swallowing small objects.
