My puppy ate queen palm seeds and is vomiting. ER vet needed?

I'm sorry to hear that Gizmo isn't feeling well. There are a few issues that could be going on here - the plant could be something that is toxic, Gizmo could have eaten enough of the seed to cause an obstruction or irritation in his intestinal tract, or the vomiting could be entirely unrelated to the seeds. ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center Phone Number: (888) 426-4435 I would recommend a trip to the vet for evaluation, especially if: - Gizmo has throw up more than a few times - This has been going on for more than 24 hours - There is blood in the vomit - Gizmo is sleepier than normal or doesn't want to eat - Gizmo is drinking a lot more water than normal or needs to go out to the bathroom continuously At the vet, they will likely do a physical exam, take x-rays of his abdomen, and possibly run a general blood work panel. If this only just started and Gizmo is his normal happy self, you can offer a small amount of boiled chicken and rice this evening, see if it settles down. As a firstg approach, I would suggest to withhold food for the next 8-12 hours and then start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhoea, more vomiting, lethargy or inappetence. Poor little guy! Before doing anything else, check the ingredient list on your peanut butter to check for xylitol. Xylitol is highly toxic to dogs, causing sudden drops in blood sugar that can lead to seizures, liver failure, and even death in severe cases. If xylitol is listed on the ingredients, take your dog to an ER vet immediately. However, if xylitol is not a concern, it certainly sounds as if your puppy has some stomach upset. This could be a result of gastroenteritis from eating too much of a fatty food, or he may be developing pancreatitis. Definitely stop feeding him for the next 12-24 hours. When you begin feeding him again, offer a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken and white rice for the next few days before slowly transitioning back to his normal diet. If he continues vomiting today, he should be seen by a vet to assess his hydration and administer supportive care (fluids, anti-nausea medication, etc.). I hope he feels better soon!

Hi. Poor Bela. Unfortunately there isn't anything we can do from home that will help Bela. If she isn't improving, I would get her in to the ER clinic right away. She will eventually become dehydrated and will most likely need hospitalization. In puppies with vomiting and diarrhea, we worry about parasites, and a viral intestinal infection called parvo. The latter can become very serious without appropriate supportive care and medications. Please contact the emergency clinic or head there as soon as you can.

Throwing up can have many causes. It is basically a problem with the stomach and intestines caused by a food over sensitivity, eating something that does not agree with the dog, intestinal parasites, bacterial infection, viral infection, the weather, food change, stress, etc.  I would fast Sadie for 24 hours and then put her on bland food for two days, such as boiled white rice and boiled white boneless chicken meat, fed in small quantities over several feeds and then transition back to her regular food slowly over a few days. If Sadie soes not eat, or if the vomiting persists, or if she gets lethargic, she needs to see a veterinarian for an exam as there may be something more serious such as an infection going on.
