My puppy ate liquid hydroxyzine and has diarrhea. Is it serious?

If possible, please take Bailey to your local emergency service for an appointment tonight. If this is not an option, you should withhold any water or food overnight, offer him very small amount of water in the morning and take him to your regular vets as soon as they open on Saturday morning.

I recommend trying positive reinforcement, providing distractions, or even using calming supplements for dogs or a product known as a “thundershirt” prior to resorting to medications. You should consult with your vet regarding any medications you may want to give to Hunter to confirm that there will be no interactions with anything he is currently taking and that the dose is appropriate for his size.

Clinical symptoms that can occur include inappetence, vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain. Sometimes this resolves on its own. However, sometimes this does require some form of therapy which is mostly supportive in nature. Since he has developed diarrhea, have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to prescribe an anti-diarrhea medication. As long as Hudson is eating, drinking and keeping it down you should monitor him at home and continue with Pro Pectalin. Offer him small meals every 3-4 hrs and provide plenty of water to drink. However, if he develops vomiting or if he starts passing blood in the diarrhoea you should take him to your local vets for an appointment.

Those packets really are non toxic, so the diarrhea is almost certainly unrelated. Did he by any chance eat food that the package was packaged with? It is possible that that is causing diarrhea. I would be comfortable with you monitoring the situation for the next 24 hours and contacting a veterinarian for an exam if he continues to have diarrhea at that point. If her stops eating, starts vomiting, becomes very lethargic, or otherwise seems ill, then it would be appropriate to have an exam sooner.

Watery diarrhea is concerning, because this can cause her to quickly become dehydrated. If it was due to the Simparica, then it would expected to be resolved within a day or two. If the diarrhea last longer than that, or Freyja is acting very lethargic, starts having tremors, or having bloody diarrhea, then it's best to take her to the vet as soon as possible for treatment. The hydroxyzine is an approved medication in dogs and his normal dose would be 50 mg twice a day. You are unlikely to notice any side effects from that tablet. However cymbalta is not used in dogs but his toxic dose for his weight is around 300-400 mg. The side effects of that medication include vomiting, disorientation, lethargy and tremors. If it has been under an hour you can induce vomiting and see if he throws anything up so it won't be absorbed. If it is longer than hour you can watch for those symptoms.
