My puppy ate lipstick and is vomiting. Should I take her to the vet?

If he ate it last night and is not showing any adverse effects by now, then he will likely be fine. If he ingested the tube, monitor for lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite or abdominal pain. These are symptoms that should be addressed by your veterinarian.

If she is still vomiting and having diarrhea after 24 hours, I recommend taking her to a vet to find out what is going on internally. She could have parasites or have eaten something else to cause the intestinal upset. If the vomiting and diarrhea continues she will need medication to stop both and fluids to prevent dehydration. I'm glad the tampon came out! And you certainly are not the first one that's happened too. Hydrogen peroxide can often successfully induce vomiting as in Khloe's case, which is good. However, it also causes significant irritation to the wall of the stomach. This can cause bleeding in the stomach. Digested blood appears brown. Therefore I am concerned that Khloe may have some pretty significant gastritis. I would recommend that you get her to a vet, they will likely prescribe a medication called sucralfate (carafate) that is very helpful in cases of severe gastritis. An acid reducer such as Pepcid may be indicated as well--however I would not recommend giving that without first seeing a vet. If she happened to eat anything else strange from the trash, stomach acid is a vital part of digesting material and making it most likely to be able to pass through. Taking her in would certainly be my first recommendation. However, If you want to avoid going to the vet if possible, and she only vomited brown liquid once, and she is otherwise acting ok--active, happy, interested in whats going on around her, eating when offered--its reasonable to give her 24 hours with small amounts of boiled chicken/white rice to eat, and see how she does. Keep fresh water available at all times but don't allow her to drink large volumes at a time. If at any point she becomes lethargic, has no interest in food, or she vomits more than 2-3 times in a 12-24 hour period, take her in. This is not a toxic food (even if she ate a lot), so I wouldn't be too worried. If she is otherwise acting normal, then it's likely that this just upset her stomach. Usually they vomit once or twice, then get over it. It's best not to feed her until morning while her stomach settles. If she starts vomiting multiple times (three or more) and is acting lethargic or abnormal, then I would be more concerned and recommend a visit to the vet. This may cause some GI upset which may result in vomiting and/or diarrhea. If it is limited to a couple of bouts and she's back to normal in 12 hours or so, you don't need to worry. Just keep an eye on her for the next 12-24 hours, and if she develops vomiting or diarrhea that is severe or continuous, or if she becomes increasingly lethargic, seek emergency care.

If your dog did not eat the actual tube and only the content, there should be no problem as non of these ingredients is toxic. However, there is a possibility that Max may get diarrhea. If that happens, you can do the following: Take your dog off food for about 12 hrs, then feed bland food such as boiled rice with boiled white chicken meat in small quantities over several feeds a day. Do this for a day, then start replacing small quantities of rice with his normal food over the next two days until he is at the normal quantity of his regular food. If the diarrhea does not go away by the end of the third day, or your dog is lethargic and dehydrated,you will need to take your dog to a veterinarian for an exam.

I doubt the number of chocolate chips in 1-2 chocolate chip cookies would be enough to cause chocolate toxicity, however any rich food can potentially trigger vomiting and diarrhea in dogs. If he seems otherwise fine you can monitor him during the day: I would only allow him to drink small amounts of water at a time and would not recommend feeding until this evening. If he vomits again, or if he has more diarrhea that has a red tinge to it I would recommend seeing an emergency veterinarian.
