My small dog ate lip balm. Is it toxic? What should I watch for?

Cheater is a naughty guy! But, luckily he should be ok. I would expect to possibly see diarrhea, given all the oils in this lip balm. You should watch for that. Vomiting would be rare, but possible, given the castor oil.

If he ate it last night and is not showing any adverse effects by now, then he will likely be fine. If he ingested the tube, monitor for lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite or abdominal pain. These are symptoms that should be addressed by your veterinarian.

Bag balm is non toxic, but it could cause Snow some GI upset in the form of vomiting or diarrhea if she ate a lot of it. Should you see that, withhold food for 12 to 24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet.

It depends on the ingredients of the chapstick. Regular or medicated chapstick is even more likely to contain difficult-to-pronounce, ingredients that could be toxic or harmful to Skye. I would call the Pet Poison Hotline at 855-764-7661 to give them the list of ingredients and they can inform you if any are toxic or not. Best of luck.

Apparently Kurt had his own plans for New Years! None of the oils are toxic to dogs (unless there is something that is not listed in the Fragrance Oils), but if he ate 8 ounces of it, that is a lot of oils and he certainly could have some diarrhea from it. If the diarrhea is mild, you could just add some cooked white rice to his food to help it resolve. If it is worse, you could feed him 1/2 cooked white rice and 1/2 cooked white meat chicken (no skin or bones) until the diarrhea has resolved. If the diarrhea is severe, has blood in it, Kurt is lethargic or the diarrhea continues for more than a few days, I would see your veterinarian. Good luck! Hopefully he will be fine. Hello there! The lanolin itself is not toxic, but may cause some temporary, greasy diarrhea. I see that he is an Australian Shepherd- since he is long haired, I will give you the gross warning that there may be a smelly bath in his future after the lanolin passes. As long as he did not ingest any large pieces of plastic, I would not be concerned. If you're not sure if he got any large pieces, the signs of a serious problem from ingesting plastic would be: not wanting to eat, lethargy, vomiting, and diarrhea. If you see those signs, I would recommend a vet visit and an x-ray to make sure he does not have any plastic stuck in his intestinal tract. I hope this is helpful!
