My new pug puppy shivers after eating. Is this normal or serious?

Hi there. What you're describing sounds like it might be hiccups, which are common and normal in puppies. But I can't say for sure without seeing him. I would recommend getting some video of him doing it, and showing it to your regular veterinarian at his next visit - he/she should be able to tell you if it's normal, or something to be concerned about.

Hello. If this has been ongoing for several hours & she has vomited multiple times, then I would consider having Kreacher seen by your veterinarian tonight or as soon as possible tomorrow. The biggest concern is dehydration, so you can try to give her a couple of teaspoons of water or broth every hour or so. If she feels like drinking, but vomits afterwards, replace her water with ice cubes to lick on. Absolutely no food until tomorrow. Hello. Shivering like this could be an indication of an elevated temperature, pain, of a fear of something, perhaps a noise Paco heard ( like distant thunder, gun shots or fireworks ). Since he is otherwise acting normally & eating fine, then just keep him comfortable & see how he is in the morning. It is not uncommon for very small animals to feel a little chilly after drinking a lot of water, however, if Kylie continues to shiver for more than a half hour, or if this happens again I would consider checking in with your veterinarian. If Kylie starts having any signs of lethargy, vomiting, or diarrhea you should seek an emergency clinic. I hope this helps!

I agree with your concerns. This is not normal for a puppy, and I would highly encourage you to have her evaluated by a veterinarian. Small puppies can have problems regulating their blood glucose levels and that may cause the trembling and nausea. Try to give her a snack every 3-4 hours if possible. Also, deworming and vaccinations are important at this age as well. Your veterinarian will complete a good physical examination on her and let you know if they have any other concerns. Weakness and shaking can sometimes be a sign of nutrient/blood chemical problems, but shaking can also be a sign of nerves, cold, etc. If you do suspect an issue, bringing Sugar into the vet for an exam and blood work to check her values is best.

Hi there! Congratulations on adopting your new friend a few months ago. Shivering in dog can be for a variety of reasons. Some common, but benign reasons would be from nervousness/excitement, dreaming while sleeping, or being cold or frightened. Some other, more serious reasons for shivering, can include ingestion of toxins, low blood sugar, low calcium, or even seizure activity. In some cases, dogs exposed to the canine distemper virus can have muscle tremors as a residual side effect from the virus. Based on Chance's history of being adopted, with a likely unknown history, it may be a good idea to bring him in for an examination by his veterinarian. This way, they can make sure no serious illnesses are suspected. What can be helpful for your veterinarian, since you don't know much about Chance's history, would be to log when these episodes occur, how long they last, and even get a video recording of a few of them. Again, as I mentioned above, shivering can just be for some very unexciting and logical reasons, such as excitement or being cold, but if it is concerning you, and becoming more and more frequent, an examination by his veterinarian would be a great idea!
