My dog has shivering spasms after eating chicken wings. Is it serious?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Frankie! He is so cute! Frankie does look like he isn't feeling well in your pictures. The symptoms he is exhibiting are non-specific. Shaking can be a sign of nausea, pain, fever or fear. Not jumping up could be pain (belly, back or neck) or just not feeling well. Again the not barking is likely because he isn't feeling well. Chicken wings (especially if they had a sauce on them) can cause gastro-intestinal upset and sometimes pancreatitis. If the wings were cooked and he chewed them they likely won't cause an obstruction but he is small. I have seen dogs who have eaten a lot of bones become constipated. If Frankie is not eating, vomiting, having diarrhea or this behavior continues I recommend having your Vet examine him. They may want to do blood work to rule out pancreatitis and X-rays to look of an obstruction or constipation. They can examined him for pain and check his temperature. Poor George! He could have a severe GI illness, may have eaten something rotten, could have a foreign body, or could have pancreatitis. It sounds like he is nauseous after eating the chicken. I would keep a close eye on him for now, continue with the bland diet but add some white rice to it, and if he starts vomiting again, have him seen by an ER vet right away. Otherwise, have him seen by a vet first thing in the morning. Best of luck.

I am sorry to hear about your pug puppy. I would recommend bringing him to a veterinarian for evaluation. When I hear of a puppy having this type of sign after a meal (if it is repeated, not just one isolated incident) I worry about a portosystemic liver shunt which you can read at here https://www.vin.com/veterinarypartner/default.aspx?pid=19239&id=4952622. If the shivering is just random or didn't recur it could be due to being cold, being scared or in pain, or a neurological issue. An exam is recommended if the shivering continues to help ascertain if the dog has a medical problem.

Seeing that Booboo is 12 years old, I would recommend having him examined by a veterinarian and have his blood tested to make sure that there are no major changes to his blood that would indicate why he is exhibiting these symptoms. He may be shivering and whimpering because of discomfort. The vomiting could be due to systemic illness or infection. The sooner he is seen by a veterinarian the better. Hello. Making any kind of assumption or diagnosis is very difficult just based on panting & shivering, but I can tell you this can be typical signs of pain & an elevated temperature. Since he has periods of normal behavior, my concerns is there is some underlying pain that JosLouis is experiencing. It could be from any area, so even if he quits the behavior, I would recommend having your vet check him out, just to make sure. Hope all is well soon. Ignacio could be shaking because he's cold, nervous, scared, or in pain. I would make sure he is warm and comfortable, and that he is eating and drinking normally. Keep him quiet tonight and if he's still shaking in the morning, I would have him seen by a vet for a health check.

Loss of appetite can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities.
