My mom hates dog odor. How can I prevent and remove puppy smell?

Hi there. Dogs don't sweat through their skin, only their paw pads - so if Mollie has a persistent odor, this is likely due to some other problem such as a bacterial or fungal skin infection, impacted anal glands, an ear infection, or some other issue. I would recommend taking her to the vet for an exam to determine what is causing the odor. He/she should be able to prescribe a medicated shampoo or other treatment for the underlying problem, depending on what is found.

I would recommend bathing him every 2-4 weeks as needed to prevent overdrying of the skin. An oatmeal based puppy shampoo is great to use. Then in between baths you can use puppy wipes which are found at your local pet store. This works wel to my overdry your pet but also keep him smelling fresh. : ) I hope this helps!

Food sensitivities can play a role in such conditions - a akin support diet such as royal canin skin care or hills derm defense can help. It is important to rule out complicating factors such as diabetes, kidney disease, mites and urinary tract infections also

Also, it is quite common for puppies and dogs in general that they roll on something that may have a scent such as urine in the grass from another dog for example. I would recommend that you go outside with your puppy to see where he is getting that scent. Best of luck!

Hello there, what a cute puppy. Odor from the face can be due to a number of things, but based on the history and age of the dog, i suspect it may be coming from the discharge from the eyes or from remnants of pet food around the lips or whiskers. Try using warm water and cotton balls to wipe the eyes and face daily while monitoring the odor. If the odor is still present and the puppy is acting completely normal, mention it to your veterinarian during your next routine visit. It could be normal and something that you will have to get used to. Obviously, if you see any health issues of any kind, please schedule a veterinary visit sooner. Good question., you did the right thing. Percy will be fine as long as you dried him off and he didn't get chilled. If he's eating normally and moving around he will be fine. I like to clean them up to get rid of the dirt and odor so they are more comfortable and the skin doesn't develop problems from being so dirty and smelly.
