Will my pregnant dog's stressful vet visit harm her puppies?

Congrats on Snowy's pregnancy! I don't think it's likely to cause any harm to the pregnancy. As long as she doesn't sustain any serious trauma along the way! Even the stress of a vet visit with a very nervous mama dog will not harm the puppies in a normal pregnancy. Take her for a walk before hand so she is a little more tired than normal and make sure to bring treats along so she can at least have some positive reinforcement. Best of luck!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Lulu! I am not sure if I fully understand Lulu's anxiety. It is strange behavior to only chew on herself when she is eating. Maybe she has more allergies and is itchy than anxious? Being mother in animals is instinctual. Most dogs make very good mothers. Her anxiety isn't a predictor whether she will or will not be. I would watch her very carefully after the puppies are born. If there are signs of aggression towards the puppies then you will have to hand raise them with dog milk replacer in bottles. If she is a bad mother I would have her spayed so she can not have any more puppies after this litter. I hope this helps and I wish you all the best!

It is likely that it did not hurt the puppies, as if it had, she likely would have aborted them by now. Playing with another dog also is not the type of stress that would hurt a pregnancy. Let her play and be happy. This would be the best environment for her. She does need a place where she can retire to so that the other dogs do not pester her when she would like to be left alone. Tell the children not to play footbal near the dogs.

Please please do not have someone who isn't a vet clip Shell's ears! This will be EXTREMELY painful for her, and the stress and pain of this could potentially lead to a miscarriage. In addition, this person will not have access to safe pain medication or anesthesia. This type of procedure should only be done under anesthesia with a vet. I cannot stress enough how painful this procedure is to a dog, and to have it done to Shell by a lay person would be cruel. I very strongly urge you not to have this done at all by a lay person, and only have it done after she has had her puppies and weaned them.

I recommend avoiding anything which could cause ger stress and would not bathe her if she normally dislikes it. If you do wash her br sure to keep her warm until fully dry but do not overheat her with hot dryers. It is useful to keep the coat very short especially along the belly and back legs for delivery and feeding pups

Hi there. Unfortunately, natural calming supplements like Zylkene or Composure have not been tested in pregnant dogs, so it's not known whether they would be safe to use or not. You could try an Adaptil pheromone collar or diffuser, as this should be safe and may help some with her anxiety.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sadly we can not estimate how far along Snowy is by pictures. Dogs are only pregnant for 60-63 days. By day 28 you can see puppies on ultrasound and by day 50 you can see them on X-ray. I have personally never seen a dog miscarry from stress. If she doesn't give birth by 70 days from when you got your dog neutered you need to bring her to the Vet to confirm pregnancy or whether she is experiencing a false pregnancy.
