My pregnant dog ate a macadamia nut cookie. What should I do?

It is very important that she is evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible. As you noted these can be quite toxic and she is already exhibiting some of the signs of being affected by it. Your veterinarian would be able to check in with poison control to check on the most updated guidelines on how to manage this toxicity and they choose to induce vomiting as well as providing supportive care to get her through this. If it is just a small piece of chocolate, it is not likely to cause any harm to the mom or the babies. There are chocolate toxicity calculators available online where you can input the type of chocolate, the weight consumed, and the weight of the animal to see if the toxicity is significant. This would be my suggestion.

Wow, that is a lot of macaroons! More than likely, Amber will experience some GI upset from eating all that sugar. You may see some vomiting and diarrhea from it. If you do see any GI upset, withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. She should be ok :-)

None of those nuts are specifically toxic, though the high fat content could cause some vomiting, diarrhea, or pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas that can cause a lot of pain and vomiting). If she starts vomiting and vomits more than twice in a 12 hour period, if she starts acting painful or lethargic, or she’s having watery diarrhea, take her in to your vet. In the meantime, just keep an eye on her, and offer her a bland diet of boiled chicken and white rice for the next couple of days. If a veterinary consultation is not an option, I would suggest to start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice vomiting, lethargy or inappetence. Hello. As long as there were not a majority of macadamia nuts in the mix, there are no significant worries. Trixxie may vomit up the whole thing, or she may have some diarrhea, but this will all be self limiting & usually does nor require medical care. The only possibility of problems could come from the relatively high fat content of the nuts which may cause a bout of pancreatitis. So if Trixxie vomits or has diarrhea multiple times, accompanied by loss of appetite, excessive water intake & any indication of fever or abdominal pain, have her seen as quickly as you can.
