My pregnant dog is vomiting and has severe diarrhea. What to do?

I am sorry to hear that Flirt is so sick. There are many possibilities of what could be going on, but I am concerned about colitis or even hemorrhagic gastroenteritis. The bloody diarrhea and lethargy is very concerning. Dogs with HGE can become gravely ill very quickly. I would highly encourage you to have her evaluated by a veterinarian immediately. Hi and thanks for your post on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Unfortunately, there are no anti-nausea/vomiting medications safe for pregnant dogs. The greenish liquid is likely bile from vomiting on an empty stomach. Nausea and vomiting can be common in some dogs in the early stage of pregnancy. There are also other more concerning causes of vomiting in dogs, so if it continues or becomes more frequent, I would take her into see her veterinarian as soon as possible. Hello. As long as Lola is eating & drinking fairly well, nursing the puppies & seeming to be contented, she should be well. If you have not wormed her in the past few months, I would definitely take a stool sample to your veterinarian now to make sure she will not be passing any parasites to her puppies. Because some parasites are inevitable in puppies, & based on what & if your vet sees anything in the stool, you will need to start administering a wormer to the puppies starting at 2 weeks of age. Poor Willow! Feed her a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, she starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. Best of luck.

Poor Gypsy. This could be due several things like a respiratory problem, eating something she shouldn't, all the hormones, a bacterial/viral infection, parasites and much more. Since she is pregnant, we have to be careful what medicines she gets put on. I would have your vet take a look at her to ensure all of the puppies are still okay. They will also be able to determine the problem and get her on the safest medications for her and the puppies. I hope this helps!

In a pregnant dog it could be due to hormones, impending labor, from worms or diet change (most put pregnant dogs on puppy food). I would contact your vet for medications since she is pregnant, start a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice and add in a probiotic like Purina Fortiflora. If Lucy is not fully vaccinated I would worry about viral infections as well. I wish you and Lucy the best!

The most common disease causing cough is a viral infection called Kennel cough, this disease usually resolves without treatment within a couple weeks but if the cough is too severe it is recommended to go to the vet in order to get cough medicine and antibiotics.
