My pregnant dog ate chocolate. Should I worry about her and puppies?

Macadamia nuts are toxic to dogs. Symptoms of toxicity include weakness, lethargy, wobbling while walking, tremors and a high temperature. Symptoms usually start within 12 hours of ingestion and resolve within 24 hours. There is no known effect on the puppies. If she has eaten the cookie within the last 1 to 2 hours, you could take her to a veterinarian and have them induce vomiting to try and prevent as much absorption of the nuts as possible. Otherwise, watch her very closely. It sounds like she didn't ingest much and would only need veterinary care if the symptoms become severe.

I’m sorry your pups got into the chocolate. I’m glad it was a relatively small amount. If your tiny Yorkie mix ate all that chocolate he could potentially have some adverse effects including increased heart rate and vomiting, diarrhea. The larger dog would likely have much more mild, if any, signs, such as intestinal upset. If there s a chance the smaller dog ate all of the chocolate or if either is showing signs of aggitation, I would bring him to your vet ASAP. Typically Cherries do not have reports of causing toxicity or issues in animals. I would monitor Maia for vomiting and diarrhea. IF you see any vomiting and diarrhea I would take her to a vet for a food exam. However I think the likeliness she would have a problem is small.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Border collie's are decent size dogs. One piece of chocolate if milk or dark should not cause a problem. Please repost if baker's or semi sweet chocolate, that is much more toxic. We would need Drib's weight and the amount, in ounces, that he could have eaten if it was Baker's or semi sweet chocolate. The severity of this depends on the type of chocolate. 60g of milk chocolate is not likely to cause any problems in a 50# dog. If this was Baker's chocolate this could be severe. So, please post again and let us know what type of chocolate it was. Then we can help you better.

There is a small chance that the toad could harm the puppies if it was a poisonous toad. However, once ingested, the stomach's acidic environment should breakdown the toad and prevent any issues from occurring.

Since the mating just happened, this shouldn't cause any problems at all - there are no developing puppies yet, since the sperm and egg haven't had time to meet and start dividing. So no need to worry about this :)
