My 3-month-old Pitbull puppy has gas. What food is best for him?

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach! The food I mostly recommend is Science Diet. I have used their food for over 20 years in my own pets and have never had a problem with their food. My own dog was on their food for 20 years and did very well. He maintained an excellent body condition, hair coat was amazing and he loved very long. I contribute his longevity to a good diet and good care as well. If you are opposed to Science Diet, I also recommend Royal Canin, Natural Balance and Purina One. There are so many foods out there and it is easy to get caught up in the marketing game of "natural", "organic" and "grain free". As long as your dog is on a well balanced and complete diet is what matters the most. I typically recommend feeding a puppy food for the first 12 months and then switching to an adult food from 12 months to 7 years of age. Beyond 7 years I recommend a senior formula. Great question! The brands I like include Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Purina ProPlan, and Iams. Iams is an excellent, affordable food which I feed to my own dogs. They love it. If you want a supermarket brand, Purina One is the best. Should you switch Brooklyn's diet, be sure to do it slowly to avoid GI upset. I hope this helps!

It's quite a difficult question as a lot depends on what you would consider affordable. Bearing in mind that more expensive foods usually work out similar as you end up feeding less. Personally for puppies I would try and give them the best at least at the start. I really like royal canin or alternatively Hill's made for the breed size.

Puppy chow is the recommended food for a seven week old puppy, but quality is very important as well. A low quality food would give Rowdy gas. Gas could also be caused by intestinal worms, which can give him bad breath as well. Intestinal worms are very common in puppies, and if Rowdy isn't up to date on his deworming treatments, I would give him Panacur which you can get OTC. Hiccups occur when a puppy eats too fast, and I would give him a little bit of food at a time during his meal time to slow down his eating. In terms of food, I would feed him a high quality puppy food such as Royal Canin or Hills Science diet.

Great question! At almost two months of age, Ooge is old enough to be fed a puppy formulated food. It has to be a puppy formulated food because puppies require higher amounts of protein, calcium, and calories than an adult dog. A puppy food will provide everything he needs to grow properly. Brands I recommend include Royal Canin, Hill's Science diet, Purina ProPlan, and Iams. On the bag, there is a daily recommended amount of food, and I would divide that into three equal portions to feed him three times a day, once in the morning, noon, and evening. Once he turns six months old, he can be fed twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. I hope this helps :-)

Congratulations on your new addition! As a general rule of thumb, I typically recommend feeding Science Diet, Royal Canin or Purina ProPlan foods. These companies do extensive clinical testing to assure that their foods are nutritionally appropriate and source ingredients appropriately. Odin should eat a puppy food until he is 1 year old. Anytime you change his diet, be sure to do so by gradually mixing old and new foods together over a 5-7 day period. Sudden diet changes have a greater chance of causing vomiting and diarrhea.
