My dog's ears are sensitive from ticks. Can I use lidocaine spray?

I am not sure what medications you used but I suggest you talk to your vet about getting NexGard, Credelio, or Bravecto prescription flea medication. They are all oral medications and start killing ticks within hours. NexGard and Credelio are given monthly and Bravecto is every 12 weeks. All three are very good products and your vet can give you a prescription for one of them. Some of the spot-on and sprays do not work very well.

Hello, topical lidocaine rarely gets absorbed or is absorbed in very small quantities unless it is used in a wide are of the body. Local lidocaine use is considered a class B medication for use in pregnant animals. That is, there is no recognized risk for fetus, however adequate studies have not been performed in humans or animals to identify potential risks. I would recommend consulting with your primary care veterinarian prior to administering this medication on your pet. Lidocaine is used frequently in veterinary medicine as local anesthetic and medications against arrhythmia. Usually is not helpful in suburns, as the best would be to protect the skin and hydrate it. Hi. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I do not recommend applying the powder in the ears as you are likely to cause irritation to the ear canal. I recommend discussing with your veterinarian one of the oral flea and tick medications. These will kill all fleas and bricks within hours of Sheena taking the medication. Even the ones in the ears.

Ear infections (unless your pet has mites, which are not as common in dogs) are not contagious. Also I would recommend discontinuing the hydrocortisone spray because it is merely a bandaid and does not treat for any possible infection in the ear itself. If your other pet does lick Diesels ears, then the moisture could set up for yeast to then grow in the ear and cause an infection. So make sure to dry the ears out and use a good Ear drying cleanser (available at your local pet store) as often as needed. Then it is best to get your other pets ears actually treated with ear medication (antibacterial +/- antifungal) through your vet. Using steroids on the skin long term can also cause issues and lead to unwanted side effects (i.e. hair loss, infections, etc).

The lidocaine rub could provide pain relief for your dog, but not taking her to the vet and using this medication without a veterinary consultation or diagnosis is your judgement call. If used inappropriately, Lidocaine can have some serious side effects in regards to toxicity. I would refrain from using this medication until otherwise directed by your veterinarian. If she has severe dental disease, the best fix for this is to have a dental cleaning done and address any infected teeth at that time. I hope this helps! Intoxication is possible even though if you put the right dose for his weight side effects should not be dangerous. I would recommend to wash the ear canal with water to get rid of the spot on solution as much as possible.
