Is lidocaine safe to put on my dog's sunburned nose, or is it toxic?

It is not a good idea to put hydrocortisone on a cut as it will HINDER healing and help bacteria infect the cut. Please wipe that off again. There is also no need for lidocaine (a local anesthetic). Unless the skin is cut all the way through (as I have described in your first question), you do not have to put anything on the cut, just let it scab over and heal by itself.

The lidocaine rub could provide pain relief for your dog, but not taking her to the vet and using this medication without a veterinary consultation or diagnosis is your judgement call. If used inappropriately, Lidocaine can have some serious side effects in regards to toxicity. I would refrain from using this medication until otherwise directed by your veterinarian. If she has severe dental disease, the best fix for this is to have a dental cleaning done and address any infected teeth at that time. I hope this helps! Hi Sharn! Oh no, it's not good that Willow is in pain from the burn! Please do not give her any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. I would apply a cold compress to her nose for 10-15 minutes, such as a bag of frozen veggies, but if she won't let you touch it, it's clearly very painful to her. I would have her seen by a vet even if she will let you apply the cold compress. This burn needs to be evaluated and treated by a vet. I would take her into one as soon as possible. Hello, topical lidocaine rarely gets absorbed or is absorbed in very small quantities unless it is used in a wide are of the body. Local lidocaine use is considered a class B medication for use in pregnant animals. That is, there is no recognized risk for fetus, however adequate studies have not been performed in humans or animals to identify potential risks. I would recommend consulting with your primary care veterinarian prior to administering this medication on your pet. An e-collar will also help decrease the chances that your pet is licking at the area. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Topical lidocaine would be safe, but it isn’t going to help much with the discomfort of the tick after an hour or so. Even though they are a common pest, they can cause irritation and local infection, quite a bit of discomfort in the ear, and (cause anemia in younger animals). A topical tick preventative would likely be cheaper in the long-run than purchasing lidocaine sprays.

If it is a light colored like white or tan and has a pink pigment on the nose and the hair is thinner this is a good idea. Watch the ears also as they can be a problem if white haired also. Just be careful to get a safe dog version or a human one that does NOt contain zinc oxide as this can be hazardous if large amounts are swallowed

No this is not safe to do. I would gently clean Archie's wound with warm water and antiseptic soap. To keep him from licking at it, you can put an Ecollar on him. You can get one at a pet store or make one at home. Keep the wound clean and dry, and monitor it for signs of infection. If you see redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, or pus, then it is infected and he will need to see the vet for antibiotics to treat it.
