How many times a day should my 2-month-old Jorkie puppy eat?

Many vets recommend to feed puppies more frequently to avoid issues with low blood sugar. Some puppies are not able to regulate their blood sugar very well until they are four months old. After four months old almost all dogs can regulate their blood sugar and so feeding twice a day is fine. Many dogs eat twice a day even as puppies and do fine. It’s all individual. What a cutie! Typically with dogs this small i recommend feeding multiple times a day to help prevent low blood sugar. I would say 4 times a day would be a great idea. I understand how confusing it can be to read and obtain conflicting information. Since Wallace is only 2 months old and is so small, I generally recommend feeding at least 3-4 times per day. The purpose of more frequent feeding at a young age and small size is to maintain an adequate blood glucose (sugar) at all times. Very small, young dogs are at a risk of developing hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) that can lead to lethargy, weakness, or even seizures if they do not eat frequently. Continue feeding Wallace the same volume of food, but divide it into 3-4 meals per day rather than 2 for the next month or so. Around 5-6 months of age, you can decrease his feeding frequency to twice daily. Just remember to keep an eye on the chart that is found on your bag of food since the volume of food that Wallace will need will change as he gets older and larger. Hello. There is absolutely nothing wrong with free feeding a young puppy as this ensures a constant source of calories & energy, especially in a very tiny one. The alternative is to put food down 4 times a day & let Abby eat as much as she likes over a 15 minute period. Ideally he would eat four times a day. At the least, he should be fed three times a day. It's best to feed a quality puppy food that is specifically formulated for puppies and it should be fed according to the manufacturers recommendations - they will have the daily recommended amount per body weight.
