It would be a good idea to feed your puppy three times a day and monitor your puppies weight and growth. You can start with the recommended feeding guidelines on the food you are feeding and adjust as necessary depending on his growth.

Great question! I typically feed dogs that age 3 times a day so their blood sugar doesn't get too low in the middle of the day. Twice a day feeding is ok too. The important part is to feed the correct amount over the course of the day. The bag of food should tell you how much to feed per day for his age and weight. This will change as he gets older. You can split that amount into two or three meals- whichever works in your schedule. As long as you are feeding the daily amount you won't be underfeeding him. Kisses to Jax!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!

I recommend until about 4 months of age to feed three times per day (divide total daily ration in to 3). Then after 4 months divide the daily ration to twice daily, morning and night. I recommend twice daily feeding from that point on.

It is not wrong to feed three times per day longer but I don't think it is necessary, unless it is a toy breed and we are worried about low blood sugar.

    I hope this helps!
