Gigi should eat 3-4 times a day until she is 4 months old. Then it’s generally ok to feed twice a day. Young puppies can have serious problems with low blood sugar and this can be avoided by frequent feedings. At 4 months old, most puppies can regulate the blood sugar. It really depends on how she looks. If you can see her ribs than she is too thin and you should feed her more food. You could either increase the amount twice a day or add in a feeding and feed her three times a day. If you are unsure than have your vet take a look at her.

The alternative is to put food down 4 times a day & let Abby eat as much as she likes over a 15 minute period. She’s tiny, she could have low sugar or hypoglycemia. This can become life threatening. Please give her a 1/2 teaspoonful of honey or Karo syrup. You can rub it into her gums if she won’t lick it. I would try to have her eat small amounts of small breed puppy food at least six times daily until she’s bigger and stronger. If you still can’t get her to eat she will need veterinary treatment soon. This is a serious medical problem. Puppies should be fed 3-4 times a day. As for the amount, feed according to the instructions on the bag of dog food. Space the daily amount out during the day. So for example, if the bag says to feed 3/4 cup of puppy food twice a day, feed him 1/2 a cup three times a day. Smaller meals are easier to digest for the puppy and energy levels don't peak and fall so much with frequent meals. I would recommend feeding your puppy a high quality puppy formulated food, such as Royal Canin or Hills Science diet. Make sure the food is formulated for puppies, as they have higher requires of calories, protein and calcium for growth, and adult dog food will not provide that.

Hi and thank you for your question! Blue Buffalo is a good food. There are many others out there that are also very good. Wellness (small breed) is one of my favorite foods to recommend. They are a good company that makes balanced nutrition and is not over the moon expensive. Others I would recommend are Zuke's and Solid Gold. Royal Canin is also very good too. It really all comes down to calories. A 5 lb yorkie does not need to eat all that much in a day. Jeff for his weight and activity level should be eating about 207 calories/day.
