How much to feed my 11-week Yorkie puppy? Is free feeding safe?

Gigi should eat 3-4 times a day until she is 4 months old. Then it’s generally ok to feed twice a day. Young puppies can have serious problems with low blood sugar and this can be avoided by frequent feedings. At 4 months old, most puppies can regulate the blood sugar. What a cutie! Typically with dogs this small i recommend feeding multiple times a day to help prevent low blood sugar. I would say 4 times a day would be a great idea. They can have a fluffy puppy coat that changes as they get older. I recommend taking Penuche to a vet to make sure he gets the proper vaccines and deworming he needs. I hope that helps

She’s tiny, she could have low sugar or hypoglycemia. This can become life threatening. Please give her a 1/2 teaspoonful of honey or Karo syrup. You can rub it into her gums if she won’t lick it. I would try to have her eat small amounts of small breed puppy food at least six times daily until she’s bigger and stronger. If you still can’t get her to eat she will need veterinary treatment soon. This is a serious medical problem. She is small and 5weeks is early to be separated from mother and littermates and such pups can be more prone to anxiety due to limited socialisation. I would recommend feeding 5-6times per day with a complete puppy food (feeding guidelines vary per brand, wet or dry) and once on puppy food would not need additional formula or supplements. Be sure to keep up to date with deworming medication and contact your vets office to arrange vaccinations. Keep her isolated from other, unvaccinated dogs until she is up to date

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I would continue to feed her the small breed puppy food at the recommended amount on the bag. Puppy food is calorie-dense, so as to meet the energy needs of high-energy puppies. You can try breaking the amount into smaller, more frequent meals (ie three or four times a day) so she feels like she is getting to eat more. I would not over-feed her for fear of early onset obesity, which can lead to significant health issues later in life. You can also supplement her diet with healthy treats during the day such as carrots or green beans. After she is spayed, her energy requirements will decrease and she will need to be fed less food so she doesn't become overweight. I hope this is helpful!

It really depends on how she looks. If you can see her ribs than she is too thin and you should feed her more food. You could either increase the amount twice a day or add in a feeding and feed her three times a day. If you are unsure than have your vet take a look at her.
