Is my Jack Russell puppy's unusual nose a deformity or cowlick?

Gucci may have been born with an abnormal nostril or he could have had an injury early in life. Regardless, I’m not sure that it will be problematic but just a cosmetic difference. If If becomes larger, red, firm, or irritating to Josh, it’s time to take him to the vet. Otherwise just watch and mention it to your vet at his next visit. From the photo, that looks to me more like a pustule (focal little infection) than a congenital defect (something he was born with). I wonder if he may have gotten a mild injury from playing with the other pups. If it hasn't gone away by the time the pup is ready to go home with you, I would make sure the breeder has the pup evaluated by their vet prior to you picking it up, or make sure the contract includes a clause that the breeder is responsible for having the bump evaluated and addressed.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! The little area of discoloration is not necessarily anything to worry about. I see this commonly with time with dark skinned animals. As long as the skin does not seem irritated and the discoloration does not happen on the nose itself, I am inclined to just continue to watch it. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I may not have an exact answer for you but it is likely normal for your dog. It could be his tongue hitting the roof of his mouth as he is "tasting" what he is sniffing. There is a olfactory gland on the roof of the mouth right behind the incisors. Or it should be his epiglottis opening and closing as he breaths or the soft palate is a bit long and it is flapping as he breaths. If something changes when he breathes normally I would see your Vet and get a work up. Good luck
