My dog has a spot on his snout that doesn't bother him. What is it?

There is no way of knowing what it is just based on its appearance. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Am is very cute! It's hard to say 100% from the pictures. The 2 possibilities are viral Papilloma, which is contagious and likes to be on the face but more so the mouth. Dogs get it from playing with other dogs at the park or from Doggie Daycare. Papillomas are white to grey and look warty. They tend to resolve with time. The other possibility is a benign histiocytoma. They are growths that appear on young dogs that spontaneously go away with in a few months. They tend to be pink and hairless, like a button. I hope this helps! This looks like a mild skin infection or irritation from an insect bite or injury. You can wash it with antibacterial soap, rinse it well and then apply a thin film of antibacterial ointment on it. As long as there are no other spots this should heal fine. The overlying skin may come off and then the pinker skin may be showing until the fur grows back in which could take a month or so. Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. I would not suspect this to be a cancerous mass. This could be a cyst from an impacted hair follicle from when she was rubbing her nose in daycare. I would monitor this for the next 2-3 weeks and if it does not resolve, I would have a veterinarian examine it so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Certainly if it worsens during the next 2-3 weeks I would have this seen sooner. I hope this helps! Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Thanks for the pictures! My hope, since Sophie is young, that the bump is a histiocytoma. These are benign bumps that are button-like, red, and hairless that can be seen in young dogs. They usually go away on their one in 2-3 months. Sometimes they ulcerate as they regress. If it gets larger, starts bothering Sophie or doesn’t go away in 2-3 months then you should have Sophie looked at by a Vet. There are other skin masses that can look like that, some are benign but there are ones that are also cancerous. I hope this helps and I wish Sophie the best!

Otherwise, if that is not possible and this continues have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment to check on a possible infection. Best of luck!
