My puppy's nose clicks when sniffing. Is this normal or concerning?

She may have some nasal drippage and is trying to suck it back up. Check her nose and also listen to her breathing to make sure she doesn't sound congested. Also if she is coughing she likley has an upper airway infection. If she doesn't have any of this going on, then she is likely smelling sometihng that intrigues her, so no worries. As long as she is not coughing excessively sneezing, vomiting or having diarrhea, she is likely just fine. From your description, it sounds like this could be a reverse sneeze. These are not dangerous (unless it happens continuously, then we would need to look for a cause). If Teddy only did it once, he may have just been taking a deep breath. If it' snot something that it repeated and he isn't showing any other signs such as coughing, sneezing, lack of appetite, or lethargy, then I would not worry about it :-)

Sometimes puppies eat too fast, and because they are not very experienced in eating solid food yet, the food ends up in the wrong place, ie not directly in the esophagus right away, or excess food tickles the back of the mouth which then causes a reverse sneeze that sounds like the sound you have heard. This is not a problem. However, if this happens very often, if your puppy starts to have breathing troubles or starts losing weight or if you observe food coming from his nose, you will need to have him examined by a veterinarian as there could be a malformation that causes a problem. But generally a once in a while reverse sneeze while eating is a normal occurrence for a puppy.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sugar is super cute! It sounds like Sugar may be reverse sneezing. It sounds like a sucking in sneeze through the nose where they tend to hold their mouth open and grimace. I recommend searching YouTube for videos and see if that is what she is doing. It is common in some breeds (beagles). Some causes are allergies, inhaled some dust particles, foreign material stuck up the nose or above the soft palpate. If the episodes continue video tape it and take her to the Vet for an exam. I hope this helps and I wish you and Sugar the best!

This is a previous misconception that dry noses are unhealthy due to previously high incidences of Distemper. However, a dry nose is not of concern, and does not mean that Bruno is sick! As long as Bruno is acting normally - eating/drinking/urinating/defecating normally, I would not be concerned. I hope this is helpful!
