Are human probiotics safe for my puppy's upset stomach issues?

There are several excellent probiotics out there. My favorites are Purina Fortiflora and Proviable by Nutramax. And yes, probiotics are considered safe to give with virtually all medications. Best of luck to you and Cash!

Most dogs do not tolerate cows milk. As they get older they do not have the proper enzymes to digest the lactose in the milk. I do know of some people who give their dogs milk and never have any problems. Baby girl does need a regimen of regular dog food though to ensure she is getting all the proper nutrients. If Babygirl commonly has an upset stomach the milk could actually be the problem. If she commonly has problems with her stomach, I would have your vet take a look at her to make sure there isn’t something else going on like intestinal parasites or a bacterial infection. Your vet will be able to talk to you in detail about her diet and the amount of milk she is receiving and whether taking off the milk will actually be more beneficial for her and her tummy. I think probiotics can be helpful for dogs with sensitive stomachs, especially those that have diarrhea. Most probiotics have other ingredients in them to make them more palatable and if you feel Brutus gets stomach upset you should stop them. I don’t think digestive enzymes are particular helpful unless a dog has a diagnosis of exocrine pancreatic insufficiency.

Probiotics wouldn't hurt. You can get them from your vet or use plain yogurt (not sugar free or flavored) to add some to her meal. You can also use a little canned pumpkin to add some fiber. However if the soft stool continues, a fecal exam to rule out any issues such as parasites or GI upset is best.

I suggest you use Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Skin and Stomach it has probitoics in it already. It is also recommend you feed multiple small meals through the day instead of only one or two larger ones. Be sure she has a very small amount of food in her stomach right before bed. This will keep her stomach from staying empty too long. I don't know how big your dog is so buy the correct size food for her. This food has small breed and regular size. A probiotic will help restore and maintain the good gut bacteria and while this is an excellent supplement to give, it will probably not do much for an upset stomach. Murray may need to see his veterinarian if he continues to vomit. There are a variety of causes for vomiting- eating something out of the ordinary, gastrointestinal obstructions, pancreatitis, bacterial, viral, and parasitic infections along with organ dysfunction such as kidney disease, endocrine diseases and even certain cancers. Until Murray can see his veterinarian, I'd recommend withholding food from him for a day (he can have water) to give his stomach a break and then slowly reintroduce his regular food or a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice to him in frequent small amounts. If he continues to vomit, he'll need to see his veterinarian. I hope this helps!

Yes, I suggest you get him a probiotic to add to the food. Use the probiotic with the chicken and rice (no puppy food) for about 4 days and then go back to trying to transition him back to the puppy food. I like this probiotic. I think it is the best. Feed one packet on the food daily.
