Are human probiotics safe for my puppy's upset stomach issues?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boston Terrier | Male | neutered | 3 months and 30 days old

My puppy is currently having some stomach issues. I have been advised to give him a course of Lactic ferments. Do those have to be designed for pets?

It is best to get probiotics from your veterinarian as the bacteria in a dog's gastrointestinal system are different from those for humans or cows. If you cannot get those, you can feed small amounts of natural (live) yoghurt with his food.
