My dog is throwing up but seems fine. Will probiotics help his stomach?

Hello, I am sorry for your concerns for Mochi. We often recommend pumpkin to add more bulk or fiber to the diet, so I do not think it will help much in this case. You can try giving her some famotidine ( Pepcid ), 5 mg every 12 hours for a few days to see if this does not settle things down. Keep her on the bland diet of boiled chicken & white rice ( 25% chicken, 75% rice ), or a little low fat cottage cheese for a few more days, as well. Feed small, but frequent meals. Adding a probiotic cannot hurt. I like Proviable or Forti Flora. If she does not straighten out in a short time, or she starts vomiting, please see your veterinarian as soon as possible. Thank you.

I would recommend changing the diet and considering adding a probiotic to the diet such as Purina Fortiflora. In a recent study, it was shown that almost 55% of GI cases (vomiting / diarrhea ) were related to the diet or the intestinal bacterial content being low. I would consider switching to a different diet and wait at least 4 weeks to see a difference. The probiotic can be found online or at your local pet store. If there is no improvement on the new diet, you may need to do a food trial on a hydrolyzed protein diet to rule out a dietary allergy. If the diet has been ruled out as the cause, I would recommend running Kobe's bloodwork and considering an abdominal ultrasound or x-rays. I hope this helps! Hello. Yes, you can give Priat some plain yogurt to see if this helps to settle his stomach. You also want to feed him a bland diet of 25% boiled chicken & 75% white rice or low fat cottage cheese. Feed him only small amounts ( no more than a cup ) every 3-4 hours until you are sure he is no longer vomiting. Hopefully, this is just a case of acute gastritis & most pets are feeling better in 12-24 hours. If not, please see your veterinarian for further diagnostics & treatments. Vomiting and diarrhea can be caused by many conditions primarily gastrointestinal in nature such gastroenteritis and gastrointestinal foreign body ingestion and obstruction or other conditions such as pancreatitis or kidney disease. I recommend that you have your pup evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Likely diagnostics to be performed include abdominal imaging and general bloodwork. It sounds like Buddy is having some gastritis, or an inflammation in the lining of the stomach wall. This is probably because of the bug he ate. If the vomiting continues for more than 24 hours I would recommend taking Buddy in to the vet to make sure nothing else too serious is going on. He may also need some nausea medication and fluids since he has been vomiting so much. I would also try to withhold food for about 12-24 hours to help settle his stomach. I hope this helps. Many times the diet is responsible for any abnormal GI symptoms. I would recommend switching to a different food altogether and consider adding in a probiotic such as Purina Fortiflora. Probiotics are definitely helpful with gastritis. Simple gastritis usually lasts a few days. With this going on for 5 days, your pup may need some additional support such as prescription bland diet. I would recommend checking in with your vet every couple of days until this is under control.
