My puppy is very sick and weak. What should I do to help her recover?

From what you are describing, I suspect that she may have a distemper virus infection. This is a very serious disease that needs intensive treatment by a vet doctor. Unfortunately there is nothing that can be done for this at home. She needs professional treatment soon, or I'm afraid she will not survive. I hope that helps and Bagheera gets treatment soon.

The medications she is receiving are fine, but really need to be administered in a hospital situation, But I can understand the constraints & difficulties you have with veterinary care in your country. Lousie may have parvo or distemper, diseases that are difficult to treat even under the best circumstances. I would at least try to keep her confined so that she only has access to clean water. You can try giving her chicken or beef broths or stocks, too. All we can do with these very young patients is to hospitalize & administer the proper treatments. This seems a little unusual to me - usually 'cat flu' is caused by two different viruses that are specific to cats. A secondary bacterial infection is possible and that may have been transmitted to your puppy. She may still be recovering from her hospital stay and it is normal for a dog to be a little lethargic for a few days following discharge. If she seems very lethargic, if she isn't eating, or if she seems to be having difficulty breathing you should contact your vet.

Yes, it is quite possible the pneumonia has not resolved. She needs urgent reassessment by a vet and further medication, possibly intravenous fluids and antibiotics in order to stabilise her condition. Such severe pneumonia in a young pup is very concerning and can be fatal due to lung scarring and collapse. It is possible there may be underlying birth defects contributing to the original condition and/or her poor response to treatment

Poor Luna! When pets have severe viral infections, they need supportive care. This may include intravenous fluids and feeding through a nasogastric tube. It sounds like Luna is very sick. I recommend to call her veterinarian and discuss parental feeding and fluids. She may also need additional supportive care. I hope this helps and I hope she starts recovering quickly.

The clinical signs you describe are concerning when they occur in a puppy as they can be seen with serious gastrointestinal infections such as Parvovirus. Other possibilities include intestinal worms, gastrointestinal obstruction and dietary indiscretion, among other possibilities. The sooner these conditions are treated the better the outcome tends to be. For this reason, I recommend that you have Poppy evaluated by a veterinarian to check for these possibilities and to start therapy based on findings. Legally, we are prohibited from recommending medications, even over the counter ones, in the absence of a physical exam and a patient-veterinarian-client relationship. The good news is that you can continue to feed Chou-Choi and offer Gatorade as you have been doing. Dilute the Gatorade with an equal amount of water. Feed him as much as he'll eat without getting sick. As long as he is eating a good quality food, he will begin to gain weight. Keep him warm and as stress free as possible. Keep his eyes, nose and mouth clear. If he seems congested, run a hot shower and place him in the bathroom (NOT in the tub) for 15-20 minutes. The steam will help loosen congestion. Since a veterinarian is unavailable, consider calling a local clinic and speaking directly with a doctor. Depending on local laws, the vet may be able to send you medication if indicated. You may need to bring him to a veterinarian if he does not show signs of improvement or continues to lose weight in spite of a healthy diet.
