Should my GSD puppy eat Royal Canin Maxi Starter dry or with milk?

Farmina Puppy Starter is for puppies up to three months of age to assist in weaning, after which Bosco should be fed a puppy food. I would follow that recommendation, but be sure to slowly change over his food so that he doesn't get GI upset. Start by mixing together the old food and the new food, and then slowly increase the amount of new food while decreasing the amount of old food until Bosco is eating the new food only.

Hi and thanks for your post! Milk mix is really meant for puppies that are under 8 weeks of age that can't eat solid food yet. Shera is old enough now to eat solid food. Shera's weight of 4.5kg is a little over 9 pounds which is okay for a 2 month old. I would follow the feeding instructions on the back of the Royal Canin puppy food package for his age. Don't worry, he will continue put on weight as he grows. A grown male German Shepard should be around 65-75 pounds. At a month of age, Malia is just starting to eat solid foods and shouldn't be away from her mother yet (unless orphaned). I would find a wet food or puppy starter food that can be mixed in with kibble, or mix in Malia's puppy formula with it to make a slurry that is easy to eat. Any large breed puppy diet should be fine to give as long as it is complete and balanced. Grain-free isn't really necessary unless there is an allergy to the food, but allergies are not common in a one month old puppy.

Congratulations on your new puppy Jigar! Yes, you can add water but it shouldn't be boiling water (thats really hot!!). You can just add hot water and wait about 30 minutes and it should break down. It is not a good idea as this food is for giant breeds and specifically formulated to keep them from growing too fast. This will not help your puppy recuperate. Your puppy needs the proper food for either German Shepherd puppies or for large breed puppies.

Unfortunately I can not make a recommendation about food amounts until I know how much she weighs and if she is underweight or ideal weight. You an repost with this information if you like. I do actually recommend doing the Royal Canin “Puppy” until she is about 8-10 months old- then you can switch her to the “Junior”. In general, the guidelines on the back of the bag are a good place to start but If she seems too thin or too fat, you can adjust up or down. Most German Shepherd puppies of this age are eating 3-6 cups daily but it depends on her size and how fast she is growing and if she needs to gain weight. A last note. Even if you cannot afford Royal Canin all the time, she needs to be on some kind of puppy food as much as possible. Chicken and rice ok for short term or occasional use but is MUCH too low in calcium for a puppy. I’d rather you mix a cheaper puppy food with the Royal Canin (or all the time) than have her on chicken and rice too much. I hope this helps and best wishes to you and your pup!

Max needs a puppy formulated food only, do not give him any human food. Brands I recommend include Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Purina ProPlan, and Iams. He needs plenty of fresh water to drink, do not give him any other liquid than water. Best of luck.
