Is Royal Canin Giant Starter okay for my recovering German Shepherd puppy?

At 3months he should be able for dry food, if necessary to get him started you may wet with one cup of warm water. If wetted, it must be removed after 20mibs before it starts to ferment as his can cause diarrhea. I would not recommend adding milk as this alters the carefully balanced minerals in the diet and can also cause stomach upsets

Choose a good quality food with a named protein source. Avoid meat meals and by products. Stay away from store or discount brands. These typically contain low quality ingredients an dmore fillers. A Rottweiler is not a giant breed so you can feed any good quality complete puppy food for large dogs. Giant breed puppy food is formulated to ensure that dogs do not grow too fast, so would not give your puppy the required nutrition for its size.

Hello. You are absolutely correct. The number of foods, & the claims they make are mind numbing. There is some truth that some breeds do seem to do better with certain diets, but in the case with GSD, the important thing is to not allow explosive growth due to their susceptibility to develop dysplasia. So, the RC food probably modifies calories, which is what is already done in any large breed puppy food. You can switch to the RC, but staying with the Hills Large Breed will do exactly the same thing. It is all, in this case, marketing & while I do love & recommend RC as well as Hills, I think RC is just pushing for more shelf space. And they do great photography with the breeds. The Royal Canin Giant Starter is a balanced diet on it's own. You do not need to, nor should you, feed anything else. Fruits are not good - too high in sugar. The egg and cottage cheese are probably fine but really not necessary. I understand you may be vegetarian but please understand that dogs are not and they need meat in order to survive. My recommendation is to only feed the Royal Canin. He doesn't appear to be too thin in the photos.

Bear in mind it is important that your dog switch dog food gradually from his current dog food to avoid digestive upset or tummy trouble. To transition, mix your dog's current food with his new food. Over 5-7 days, gradually decrease the amount of the current dog food while increasing the amount of new dog food.

A diet consisting of primarily boiled chicken is not balanced and is lacking in vitamins, fatty acids, fiber and minerals. Proper nutrition, prevention of parasites and disease and genetics are what affects the over-all adult size. She may not get much bigger due to her age (the window of growth closes). I recommend to feed her Royal Canin German Shepherd Puppy until 15 months of age and then switch her to the adult version.
