How to tell if my GSD puppy is purebred, working, or show line?

Hi there. It's always difficult to tell from looking at puppies, what they will look like as adults - so I can't say for certain whether they're purebred or not based on this. But, yes - these are within the range of typical colors for GSDs, and they look like they certainly could be purebred.

The working lines are usually smaller, have very little angulation. They are bred to have a very high pain tolerance. This means they do not respond very much to pain. It also means he will not respond to normal corrections and requires much harder discipline to get the dog to obey you. Working dogs have more 'hair trigger' aggression, and generally a higher Prey drive.

From the little I see, Teddy does look purebred. His ears may come up later, or not at all. Keep in mind, though, that there is such a thing as a prepotent stud, which means that the father passes just about all of his traits to his puppies. If that's the case here, the father may be a purebred German Shepherd Dog, and the mom a GSD mix or something else. It would help to have profile photos of Teddy standing.

They look like German Shepard puppies. If they are purebred they should have registration papers on both the father and mother. Once they register the litter they should give you papers so you can register your puppy. If they do not have papers then there is a good chance that they are not purebred German Shepard puppies. Spring certainly looks like he could be a purebred German Shepherd. He's a very handsome boy! If his breeder did not have any paperwork to prove that he is purebred, then the only way to find out for sure would be to have a DNA test done.
