Does my dog look like a purebred German Shepherd? How to know?

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 1 month old | 78.8 lbs

Does he look pedigree? The first pic was taken yesterday the other 2 were taken around 3 months ago

Spring certainly looks like he could be a purebred German Shepherd. He's a very handsome boy! If his breeder did not have any paperwork to prove that he is purebred, then the only way to find out for sure would be to have a DNA test done. This can be done from a cheek swab, or from a blood sample taken by your vet. You can take a look at this website for more information, if this is something you're interested in: www.wisdompanel.com

From the pictures, he definitely looks a lot like a pure bred German Shepherd. Of course I cannot say for sure as I do not know who his parents are. You could send off a DNA test if you needed some type of proof. He is so handsome!!

From the little I can see of the dog, I would highly doubt that he is a purebred German Shepherd Dog. His earset is much higher than a GSD's . . . more like a Siberian's. Also, his coat is very shaggy and his head is all wrong for a GSD. That said, he may be a very, very poor specimen of the breed, although I doubt it. To be certain, DNA testing can be done to determine exactly what he is.

What papers confirm a German Shepherd puppy's purebred status?

They look like German Shepard puppies. If they are purebred they should have registration papers on both the father and mother. Once they register the litter they should give you papers so you can register your puppy. If they do not have papers then there is a good chance that they are not purebred German Shepard puppies. You can always proceed with the DNA test to check the breed which is available online. I would encourage you to have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment to check for possible reasons of his perceived lack of growth. Can you tell me my dog's breed, age, and physical characteristics?

Max looks to be a German Shepherd but if there is a small amount of a different breed (like a single great grandparent), if may be difficult to detect by looks alone with so much German Shepherd genetics present. He does not have the straight back of most working lines, nor is he quite as angulated as most show lines. His breeder would be the best source of information as to the different bloodlines present and if there was a mixing of show lines and working lines. He has the more rare long coat for the breed. From the photos he appears to be black and tan with the normal saddle markings. I hope this is helpful and please feel free to post any additional questions.
