Why is my Golden Retriever twitching, unstable, and withdrawn?

Poor girl. These symptoms are highly suggestive of a toxin or drug intoxication. If this has been going on for more than 15-20 minutes duration, then I would highly recommend taking Bella Rose in to your local vet for a proper exam, diagnostic testing to hopefully pinpoint the problem, and treatment to help stabilize her condition. IF she did ingest a toxin, then the vet wil lhave to detox her quickly to help prevent any permanent damage on her organ systems, and also to prevent further absorption of the toxin in her gut. Another possible cause for these symptoms is a pyometra (spontaneous uterine infection). This can happen at any time in non-spayed female dogs and leads to septicemia which can cuase similar symptoms invvolved in a toxin ingestion. Tihs is also considered to be a serious condition and should be treated for as quicikly as possible by your vet. I hope that your fur baby Bella Rose is able to make a full and speedy recovery. It's very concerning to me that you lost a dog two weeks ago who had similar symptoms, and I would be concerned these symptoms could be caused by something toxic. Given that you did recently lose a dog with these symptoms, I would take Bella into a vet immediately. You don't want to potentially lose another dog, so I would say she needs veterinary care now. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.

I would say that these symptoms are not consistent with a tapeworm infection and something else. What you are describing sounds as though she has neurological signs. I would recommend having a veterinarian examine her so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. This could also be what we call vestibular disease. I am not sure how old Bella is but if she is older, then vestibular disease could be the cause of what you are seeing. I hope this helps! Obviously it could be a behavioral issue as well, maybe something is causing her some [stress](https://www.petcoach.co/article/5-surprising-ways-stress-can-impact-your-pet). It could also be a neurological problem or other toxicity. Monitor her and if symptoms persist or worsen, consider a physical exam with your veterinarian or at the nearest veterinary ER.

I would need to ask a bunch more questions and would be happy to do a consultation if you’d like but let me give you a few ideas. 1) be sure it’s not heart- Fainting spells can look a lot like seizures. Consider a cardiology consult to make sure it’s not that. They’ll do an EKG and ultrasound of the heart to make sure nothing is amiss. 2) weird fungal diseases- I’m from Arizona, land of valley fever - a fungal disease that can - and often does- cause seizures. Other fungi like Blastomycosis and Histoplasmosis can do similar things. If Bella has traveled out of Texas- even for just a day or two- these are considerations. 3) Bella is simply an atypical epileptic and needs more/different medication. Just like in people, it can sometimes take some time to find the right combination of drugs to get the seizures controlled. 4) weird drug interactions- double check especially about any anti-anxiety or behavior modification medications and pain medications. 5) hypothyroidism, tick fever, other weird stuff. If you’ve done an MRI, you may have already consulted with a neurologist. If not? That would be the next step along with the cardiologist visit. Best of luck to you and Bella!

I am sorry to hear that Preston isn’t feeling well. At such a young age this concerns Me about the possibility of intoxication. If there is any chance he could have ingested a prescription or recreational medication then he should be evaluated by a veterinarian immediately. I also worry about a possibility of infection such as distemper virus, or other neurologic abnormalities. I would recommend bringing her to a veterinarian right away. I am unsure how long she was out but her behavior is very abnormal for her age. I am worried that she ingested something toxic or was traumatically injured. It is hard for me to discern without a physical exam but I would recommend an exam, some bloodwork and maybe even some radiographs depending.
