My dog vomited. What should I feed him after not eating all day?

For any GI upset, a bland diet (such as white rice and plain boiled white meat chicken) that is easily digestible is a good option. If chicken isn't an option for her, very lean ground beef browned in a skillet with no oil is another good option. If she continues vomiting, doesn't want to eat or otherwise starts acting ill, then I would recommend having her evaluated by her regular veterinarian. Good luck!

I'm glad that Machin is doing better after being so sick! It is recommended to withhold food when a dog is vomiting. I'm not sure when Machin last vomited, but I would wait at least 12 hours from the time he last vomited before feeding him again. I would then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If he starts vomiting again on the bland diet, then I would take him back into the vet.

I would wait a couple of hours before feeding him again. Give his stomach time to calm down. If he doesn't vomit again, give Milo a small amount of food and wait 20-30 minutes. If he doesn't vomit, give him a little more. If he vomits again, I recommend an exam by a vet to determine why he is vomiting. Good luck and kisses to Milo!

If he eats it and keeps it down, you can offer him more in 2-3 hrs. However, if he refuses to eat, vomits or if he is not passing stools as normal, you should take him to your local vets for an appointment.

I would suggest to withhold food for the next 8-12 hours and then start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhoea, more vomiting, lethargy or inappetence. If he refuses to eat the bland diet, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. It's probably best to wait until dinner just in case his tummy is still a little upset. Monitor him closely for any continuing signs of illness. if this is just car sickness, he should be fine by dinner time. Try to keep him rested until then.
