My dog is recovering from vomiting. When and what should I feed?

I would suggest to withhold food for the next 8-12 hours and then start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhoea, more vomiting, lethargy or inappetence. For any GI upset, a bland diet (such as white rice and plain boiled white meat chicken) that is easily digestible is a good option. If chicken isn't an option for her, very lean ground beef browned in a skillet with no oil is another good option. If she continues vomiting, doesn't want to eat or otherwise starts acting ill, then I would recommend having her evaluated by her regular veterinarian. Good luck!

I am sorry to hear about Scotch! If your vet recommended a certain food or feeding schedule I would continue with their recommendations as long as Scotch isn't vomiting. If they gave no recommendations you can try feeding very small meals of bland diet such as cooked white rice and boiled chicken breast in very small amounts every few hours.

Withhold food for 12-24 hours. Allow small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet (1:1 ratio of plain boiled boneless chicken and plain white rice). Feed in small, frequent amounts waiting at least one hour between feedings. If the vomiting stops, transition slowly to the regular diet. If not or if she develops other symptoms (diarrhea, lethargy, loss of appetite, etc.), see your veterinarian.

I would just give him a small dose of plain white boneless skinless chicken and white rice to help settle his tummy. If he is acting lethargic or continues to have vomiting or diarrhea, I would have a vet take a look at him. Small dogs like him can quickly get dehydrated. There is not a hard and fast rule for how long a pet should be without food. Some vets say as long as 24 hours. I generally recommend 6 to 12 hours. It may help also if you feed him a bland diet for the next 24 hours. Boiled white meat chicken and plain boiled white rice. If he continues to be sick, have him examined by the veterinarian.
