My dog has a zit-like lump near his privates. Should I be worried?

However, from the sounds of it, it does not sound as though it is a cancerous mass based on your description. This is probably not serious. I recommend feeling it and writing down how big it is every month. I don’t expect it to change but if it does start to grow or becomes painful then please take him in for an exam. I would also point this out to your veterinarian at his yearly exam. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. You can try to use chlorhexidine containing pads (such as the Douxo chlorhexidine 3% PS pads) to clean the are twice daily for 7 days. You may find these online or at your local pet store. I would not be immediately concerned but would continue to watch for any changes. This does just look like a small pimple or blocked oil gland but continue to monitor for any signs of infection such as heat, redness or pain which would indicate a sooner visit may be required.

I don't think you need to freak out about it. It does not look concerning. It may just be a plugged hair follicle or a small cyst. I suggest you use these medicated pads on the affected area once or twice a day. If after a week or so, if there is no improvement, then he should see your vet.
