My dog has a tiny bump on his private area. Should I be worried?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Male | neutered | 8 years and 8 months old | 14 lbs

I noticed a tiny bump (smaller than a sesame seed) on my dog's prepuce. I can feel it with my fingers under his skin but it's not noticeable on the outside. There are no other symptoms and he's not bothered by it. Should I worry?

This is probably not serious. I recommend feeling it and writing down how big it is every month. I don’t expect it to change but if it does start to grow or becomes painful then please take him in for an exam. I would also point this out to your veterinarian at his yearly exam. From your description this is nothing to be overly concerned about at this time. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for Oreo.
