Why is my dog's yellow, dry poop like scrambled eggs after new food?

Hi there Persistent diarrhea is one thing we take pretty seriously in our pets. It would be helpful to know if Winnie has been dewormed lately and if she has been vaccinated. Your vet will likely need to do a fecal exam to make sure what you are describing isn't parasites, first and foremost. A change in food can sometimes cause the stool to change color slightly or become loser, however you did mention it was the same food, just a new bag. Checking to see if there were any ingredient changes between bags may alert you to a cause. A bland meal of boiled rice and chicken may also help with any minor GI upset while transitioning food. Other issues can include GI upset, parasites, illness, food allergies, etc, so if the problem does not resolve bringing in Joey along with a stool sample to your vet can help rule out some of these other issues and narrow down the cause.

This can happen from a variety of conditions such as gastroenteritis, intestinal worms, parvovirus, dietary indiscretion and colitis as previously mentioned. I advice that you switch Kiwi to a bland diet mainly of boiled chicken breast and white rice for now (for 2-3 days) as this is easily digestible and well-tolerated. However, it would be a good idea to have Kiwi evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. At the very least, your veterinarian may be able to prescribe something to treat his diarrhea. Good luck!

Thank you for your questions about Koda. I would not say that is normal and I suspect it may be a sign that he does not tolerate the new diet as well. The jury is still out on grain free food, some pets do well on it and other ones develop heart conditions and constipation issues. Most vets generally do not recommend them. I do advise changing the diet again. If you are looking for a nice food, I recommend a brand called Royal Canin. It is generally very easy to digest and most pets who eat this diet have nice coats, good stool quality and low stool quantity (a sign that the diet does not contain many fillers). Change the diet slowly over about a weeks time. If the diarrhea continues, have the stool checked for parasites as this can also cause changes to the stool. I hope you found this helpful. The good news is that these yellow dots don't look like any intestinal parasite that's visible with the naked eye. My best guess is that your dog recently ate something relatively fibrous, like plant material, rice, or another vegetable that passed through the stool reasonably unchanged. As long as your dog isn't experiencing any changes in their appetite or energy level, or any vomiting, then I don't see any cause for concern. If this continues, you can always ask your vet to submit a stool sample to a reference lab for further evaluation.

His poop is bright yellow b/c of his current diet (just rice and cottage cheese). He should have some protein in there, so I would suggest adding chicken or ground turkey. Also as long as he is not straining to poop, there is no cause for concern for the fewer stools, especially since he isn't eating anything with much substance. As long as he is acting normal, there is no major cause for concern here. Slowly transition him back to his normal diet once your vet says he is good to do so, and his stools should return to normal. That could be possibly the consequence of the deworming tablet which is causing some stomach upset. I would recommend to start a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice every 6 hours in small portions for the next 3 days. Then gradually go back to normal diet through the following week. If the signs persist or if you notice vomiting, inappetence or lethargy a check up at your local veterinarian would be needed.
