My dog has trouble breathing, runny nose, and bleeding gums. What's wrong?

It is possible that the bite wound may be deeper than it appears, it may need stitches, or it may need antibiotics to prevent it from becoming infected. Your dog may be suffering from severe allergies affecting his upper airways, or an upper respiratory infection caused by bacteria, a virus or a fungus. I strongly recommend you make an appointment with your veterinarian for an exam and appropriate treatment.

Oh no. Poor guy. If he has unclear lungs and labored breathing, then that means that he likely has either fluid or blood in his lungs. Also a mass in the lungs is also possible depending on what the x-rays looked like. If his gums are pale it either means he is losing blood internally, his red blood cells are being destroyed by an immune mediated condition, or he is in shock. This sounds serious unfortunately and your pet is considered to be highly unstable. I would recommend taking Harvey back in to a vet right away for overnight supportive care (i.e. oxygen, fluid therapy, etct) until the rest of his bloodwork comes back in. Also an ER vet will be able to run tests right away in house to quickly assess his condition so that we can decide on further treatment/care for Harvey. He could be suffering from a severe respiratory infection causing his symptoms. If he's breathing through his mouth, then it is likely because he is very congested. Ruffus could also have an eye infection causing the discharge, and any problem with the eye should be considered an emergency because it's such an important and delicate structure. He does need to see a vet immediately for these symptoms so he can be treated. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.

It could be Gus Gus has a foreign body, growth, or fungal infection in his nose causing the bleeding. A fever means that he could have an infection going on. He needs to see a vet now, as he sounds quite sick with all of his symptoms. Please take him into a vet immediately. Best of luck.

Based on the symptoms that you describe it is possible that his nasal discharge and loud breathing could be an indication of any of the above mentioned problems. Dogs can develop upper respiratory infections secondary to bacteria or viruses. Another possible explanation is that Blue has rhinitis, or an inflammatory condition, most commonly associated with allergies. These symptoms can also be indicative of a nasal foreign body or possibly a nasal mass. There are "nasal mites" (or parasites) that can cause these symptoms, but these are very uncommon. I would recommend having Blue evaluated by your veterinarian so that they can perform an examination and evaluate his lungs and nose. Depending on these findings they can discuss the need for additional diagnostics and discuss possible treatment options. Hope this helps, good luck!
