My Shih Tzu puppy has a watery, scratched eye. What to do until vet?

Watch Egie for any signs that the eye itself was injured such as squinting, redness to the sclera or excessive tearing. As long as the injury is only on the skin, your pup can probably heal on his own. If the eye itself is injured, havehim examined quickly. Have him wear an elizabethan collar at all times. Until the wound is healed, no more play dates. I am not familiar with Leucillin but as long as it is safe for the eyes, you can apply the ointment for the next 1- 2 days then stop. You can try to keep her as quiet as possible until you can have her evaluated by a veterinarian to avoid the injury getting worse. I do not recommend starting any medications without an exam first. The only thin I recommend you do is to out an E-collar on to prevent Finn from rubbing his eye and causing further harm. You can warm compress the eye twice daily. Be sure you can tolerate the temperature first before putting it on his eye. I hope this helps and I wish Finn the very best!

Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. In some breeds the eyes can get a little red with excitement, when they are tired, etc. As long as Olaf's eyes do not seem painful: excessive blinking, holding an eye closed, excessive tearing, yellow or green discharge or rubbing them it is fine to wait until your appointment next week. Poor girl. Because she is keeping her eye closed, it is very likely she has a scratch or ulcer on her cornea (eye surface). Because of this type of injury, Suziee Lu will need to see your vet to have the eye checked. If there is a scratch, as suspected, then she will need topical prescription eye medication to get this to heal properly. It is ok to wipe the outside of the lid with warm salt water until you can get her in to your vet for further care.
